Shreve definitely will; check recent outings. Venters isn't ready, isn't close. Don't think we'll see Buchter again.

If you want to go by recent outings than Buchter has been far and away better than Shreve. Also, Buchter's splits are way better against lefties (which would be all he would be facing)

Chasen Shreve last 10 games:

2-2, 2.70 ERA, 10 IP, 8 hits, 3 ER, 4 BB, 12 K's

Ryan Buchtet last 10 games:

1-0, 1.35 ERA, 13.1 IP, 9 hits, 2 ER, 7 BB, 12 K's

Chasen Shreve vs. LH batters (at AA) *not a large enough sample at AAA

2.57 ERA, 14 IP, 14 Hits, 4 ER, 2 BB, 21 K's, .259 AVG

Ryan Buchter vs. LH batters

0.73 ERA, 24.2 IP, 18 Hits, 2 ER, 13 BB, 28 K's, .205 AVG

The most important stat above is the opponent average and Buchter is vastly better.

The only concern about Buchter is walks, and that is the only area Shreve would be an upgrade over.

The Braves do have a spot open on the 40-man, there is one available, so that will not be a factor. I think you might see Murphy if they don't make a trade for someone outside the organization before Aug. 31

If that is the case then Murphy could very well make some sense to get called up. I just thought we were at 39 guys on the 40 man roster before the trade with the Cubs which would put us at 40 after Schafer was DFA'ed. But hey I hope I was wrong and we are at 39 because Murphy has a ton of flexibility along with some pop in his bat.
