Shelby Miller Traded To The Cubs [FALSE ALARM]

HEYMAN: dodgers, nl west rivals talking to marlins about jose fernandez; things starting to percolate.

I have a feeling the Marlins will botch this one if its the dodgers. Dodgers are known to not want to include Seagars or Urias.. At the moment, they seem to be down on Puig. Miami could view Puig as the exact type of guy that fits the Miami style and protection behind Stanton. Puig and B level prospects for Fernandez? If the dodgers pull that off, Miami FO needs some head examinations. Just a thought though.

I have to believe Shelby will, in fact, be traded. We got all this pitching so we could eventually move some of it, so it wouldn't make sense to then stand pat with your major league pitchers while also gathering a crap ton of minor league pitching as well. And his value is in a great spot right now. I have to believe we're just testing the market and keeping as many teams warm as possible. There is some risk to that strategy, but there is also potential reward. I think we'll see something happen within the next week or two.

I like your thought process here, but we would need to get more than just McMahon for Teheran. And man, that rotation would be all kinds of iffy.

No doubt. That's the main reason I mention the QO for Aybar and potential Wieters signing. We'd have ALL KINDS of money to spend, even if it's just to add experienced mid-rotation arms as fallbacks (Cashner, Danks, Hammel, Charlie Morton, Jon Niese, Volquez or even if you had to trade for one or two). The only players making any kind of significant money in that scenario would be Freeman, Wieters, and Aybar (for one year) - everybody else would be making less than $5 million.

The Sox are not going to trade Moncada for Shelby Miller straight up, much less add a prospect.

Granted, Dombrowski is much more likely to trade prospects for ML talent than was the previous regime, but even Benintendi is a stretch. They love that kid.

These guys might go in a Jose Fernandez deal, but not for Shelby Miller.

With their trash rotation and the uncertainty of Clay, they need a #2 guy at the very least. It would be amazing to get Fernandez, or they could take Miller...

Between the 30M penalty and the $30M signing bonus they have way too much money in Moncada to think about trading him. We've been rumored to be looking for up the middle players. Swihart and Bradley Jr make a lot of sense.

We do know the Braves have loved JBJ for a while now.

The Sox are probably open to trading one of Eduardo Rodriguez, Henry Owens, or Brian Johnson. Now that they have Price I don't see them having 3 more lefties in the rotation.

I actually think Benintendi can be had, given what Betts is doing, and I would like that deal. If we could do something like Miller and another pitching prospect (would have to be a pretty good one) for Benintendi and Bradley, I'd do it in a heartbeat, then sell Markakis and Mallex, honestly.

I'm not saying he can't be had, but, as you say, it will take more than Shelby.

He's not blocked by Betts, necessarily. His bat will probably play in a corner. They're not likely to trade him, IMO.
