Sherman: Braves offered Heyward 80M after 2013

I get if you don't like what happened, but it's hard to argue with the results. We aren't the worst offense in the league and have exciting pieces waiting to come up. In one single offseason. I'd at least withhold judgement til the end of 16 because a lot can happen and we probably aren't done.

Braves are not done...not even close. But now they are in a position to add and not to sell. The selling will be done opportunistically if the situation presents itself such as teams calling on Shelby Miller. I don't think its difficult to construct an argument that the Braves are ready to compete for a world series as early as 2016.

I think that is early, but that's just me. A ton would have to go our way.

Our offense has been better because of:

Maybin (I would have made that deal whether we were rebuilding or not)
AJ (not going to continue - is not part of the magical 2017
Simmons (but he is coming back to earth)
KJ (not going to conitune - is not part of the magical 2017
A little bit of Jace Peterson - but not much
A little bit of Markakis - but the lack of power is becoming comical

Basically - the offense is starting to sputter now that everything is coming back to earth. We're still winning games because of the pitching is getting better

The Braves won games last year because of the pitching as well.

There will be improvements in the lineup next year as well with Peraza/Smith up (hopefully).

Yeah, all that's called a baseball season. The ebbs and flows happen.

We've done very well with the pinch hitting and hitting with RISP this season. There is a big element of unsustainability there. It has masked the fact this is a very weak offense. Eventually Lady Luck moves on.

You are on some heavy drugs. I really lol'ed out loud off the Braves competing for world series title NEXT YEAR.

Yeah - I wouldn't expect it to continue

Yeah, we know.

Personally I'd rather this team win 50 games the next two or three years so we can stockpile some addl high end talent, but I don't think that sits well with Johns. Like the Nats did when they were choking their own chickens for a decade or so.

I'm not surprised. Everything you post is something negative about the Braves. I do not understand why that is but you will never see anything with the Braves in a positive light.

I post plenty of positive stuff. (see Wood, Freeman, Bethancourt, Simmons for example) Claiming the Braves are going to compete for a title next year is lunacy though.

Heck, just look at our division. Certainly inferior to Mets and Nats. On par, maybe slightly ahead of Marlins.

Great, those are two of the most pitching rich organizations, although one could argue that the Nats are a little undecided moving forward.

Who else is comparable.
