Simmons dealt to Angels for two top pitchers, Aybar

Are you even aware how idiotic that comparison is? Simmons at $15m is obviously more valuable than Markakis at $11m, which is precisely why the return for Simmons is now the best prospect in the entire Braves system.

I swear, some people just can't seem to take logical steps so I'll spell it out for them.

Simmons value stems from all world defense and the potential for improved offense, all at an affordable price. If his defense falters a bit, and his offense never improves beyond the sub 700 old guy he has been to date, suddenly he isn't that valuable at $15m.

The Braves obviously feel the risk/reward of a potential Ace is worth the risk/reward of Simmons.

I'm aware of all that. I also feel the Braves traded Simmons for more payroll flexability. We are becoming the Marlins.

Payroll flexibility is a good thing. It allows you to spend more. By some of the moved we made I.E. buying Touissant this FO has shown that it's going to spend everything they're allowed to spend.

It's also good to have good talent at below market prices.

Uhh... we traded them.

They or their agents could have approached the Braves about an extension well before hand if they really wanted to sign an extension instead of testing FA. I realize your reason to live is to question every move of the the Braves FO, but extensions are a two way street. Even if the Braves never approached them, if they truly wanted to sign an extension (at a team friendly deal mind you) then they would have made that known.

They wanted a bunch of money. No one is blaming them for that. But clearly the Braves didn't feel they could make that work given their budget.

No one really knows for sure, but I always got the impression that Heyward and his financial team was set on testing free agency. I could be dead wrong.

As per Justin Upton, it would have probably taken a six- or seven-year deal to get him done (again I could be wrong) and I don't know if I would want to do that with him.

Don't get me wrong. The front office has been a bit puzzling with a number of its moves, but I think they made the right guesses on Heyward and J. Upton.

Kind of like how everyone knew for a fact that Upton and Heyward were never going to sign an extension with us

They may have but dont think the FO wanted to spend 180-200 mil on Heyward.

Justin i would have liked to keep but i worry about his weight in the long-term.

Uhh... we traded them.

They were FA's to be and were both going to command massive contracts.

I do believe Heyward and his camp always wanted to reach FA, but could be wrong.

Not sure with Justin either way.

Pretty crazy stat on Newcomb (from Scott Coleman):

He's huge -- 6'5, 245 pounds -- with a mid-90s fastball and two plus breaking pitches. Command has been a bit of an issue in the past, but he's a legitimate No. 1 prospect. He struck out 168 batters in 136 innings. He surrendered more than five hits ONCE in 27 starts in 2015. I'm not sure I'd be able to put those numbers up on MLB: The Show. There's a decent chance we refer to this as the Sean Newcomb trade in a couple years.

I dont think anyone hates Newcomb its why cant we get any MLB ready or top tier bats in return.

Traded Gattis, Simmons, Heyward, Justin and didnt really get many bats in return, just pitching.

Raise your hand if you have no idea who Kiley McDaniel is. If you don't know, then you have no business weighing in on this discussion. McDaniel was WIDELY considered one of, if not the, foremost evaluator of amateur and international talent while at FanGraphs. And now he works exclusively for the Braves.

If I'm going to take the word of someone, I will make darn sure he knows more about the subject than I do. And McDaniel was for years the go-to guy for talent evaluation.
