A lot has been made of putting Holmes in the rotation but I think having him in the bullpen is stronger with him in it. It would be easy enough to option Elder when Strider returns.

I think we picked Cairo and Pilar with every intention of them being on the roster. We can likely DFA Allen and still keep him. Cairo can also be used as a weapon on the bases.

I have Marisnick beating out De La Cruz. Marisnick has been no worse than De La Cruz offensively over their careers but is a far better defender giving him a higher floor. He can also play CF which gives us the ability to option Kelenic when Acuna returns.

For the last bench spot I prefer White over Williams. White's faster and has the higher upside. While Williams has more positional versatility he's more likely to make it through waivers at the end of ST. That being said a Whit reunion would really make sense to fill this slot.

Man that rotation is ugly. With our schedule being so brutal the first month I could see us being in a hole pretty quick. If we lose 1 of our top 3 the first month we are in trouble. Also I would start AJSS instead of Elder all day. We already know what Elder is. AJSS needs to sink or swim from day 1.

Elder vs AJSS was really a toss up for me. At the end of the day I decided on Elder because I didn't want to bring AJSS up with the intention of just sending him back down. AJSS definitely has the higher upside though.

Elder imo is nothing more than a spot starter, AJSS actually has upside and is ready to show what he's got. I'm hoping he earns a spot out of ST.

I assume that's not Miguel Cairo at short, though considering how terrible our benches are I can't rule it out completely.

Allen took Sale deep in live Bp

Yeah, I don’t see Arcia doing that. I also don’t see Arcia having the defense of Allen. I also don’t see Allen as the type to act like an imbecile toward the Philly fans to the degree that even Acuña had to tell him to chill.

Everybody wants a bench piece …. Well Mr. AA: you have one staring you in the face - his name is Orlando.

Allen isn’t starting over Arcia nor should he.

Christian Cairo. He's a Rule V pick from the Guardians

I know next to nothing about him, but his scouting report says he's a solid defender. And his minor league slash line isn't completely terrible, with a career .359 OBP. His hit tool appears to be non-existent though.

I agree with most of that, but part of thinks they’ll break camp with Baldwin over Tromp. The crazy platoon is over and Murphy will be catching 4 nights a week. Baldwin brings more offense than tromp and he can learn the craft from one of the games best defensive catchers.

Probably won’t happen, but I’d like to see it

I’d rather see him get v 300-350 ab against major league pitching and learn from Murphy. It’s just what I’d want to see not saying it’s the right answer lol

You're wasting Baldwin's clock having him as a backup. Granted they can probably extend him but point remains.

I think there could be a middle ground here. like you said, don't add him until June whatever and then bring him up to get exposure to MLB pitching.

No one said you were wrong. It is a general question that could lead to a fair debate.

When is it right to allow Baldwin to be in the bigs.. How short of a leash do you give Murphy to turn the last year and a half around? All interesting talking points that could be easily argued either way.
