Smoltz elected to Cooperstown along with Pedro, Unit, and Biggio.

I may have to journey to Cooperstown two years in a row.

Would be epic to see three of the greatest power pitchers in the history of baseball get inducted at the same time.

Schilling not getting in is a joke. I think he's hurt by his creationist non-sense.

I actually think he'll get in in a few years. After this year there's only maybe 1 candidate per year that's guaranteed to go first ballot. I think the writers are going to get as many in the next two years as possible so Schilling can stay on and he'll get it in the next few ballots.

2016:
Ken Griffey Jr. (lock)
Then the tier below Griffey that may get in one day:
Jimmy Edmonds
Billy Wagner
Garret Anderson

2017:
Pudge (perhaps a lock for first ballot)
Vlad (don't think he's first ballot)
Posada (maybe he gets in one day just because of Yankee love)

2018:
Chipper (lock)
Andruw (no chance at first ballot)
Jamie Moyer (may get in one day just because of the insane longevity even though no numbers)
Thome (lock)
Scott Rolen (may get in eventually but not on first ballot)

2019:
Rivera (lock)

Looking at 2017, Pudge may make first ballot or may not. I'd imagine someone like Schilling will get in that year.

Hope Piazza gets in. There is no way you can hold steroids over him without any real proof. Man was the greatest hitting catcher of all time. Never saw that much right center power from a righty in my life.

Three longest balls I ever saw hit at Turner Field were by Galarraga, Sosa, and Mike Piazza. Piazza hit one into the 715 club. Dude was one of my least favorite players in MLB, but he had ridiculous power.

If Smoltz gets in, Schilling should get in. I don't even like the guy—never have, even before he became such a public blowhard—but he should be in. Mike Mussina, too, though that's a different conversation. Pedro and Unit should be (and are, apparently) no-brainers. The two of them, along with Maddux, are among the all-time greats.

I will hitchhike if I have to to see Smoltz get in. Chipper too when his day comes. So happy Smoltz is getting in on the first ballot.

There's worse excuses to go to the HOF then seeing Smoltzy inducted. Downside though, there will be a ton of douchy Mets and Sox fans there.

Good. Smoltz should go in immediately, and it's not even up for debate. Always amazed at how stupid some of the HOF voters are.

Smoltz is a Hall of Famer. But you can debate him vs other guys that could cost him first ballot. As much as I love Smoltzie, him getting in over Schilling is wrong. I mean as a BRaves fan I love our 90s stars getting their respect paid to them, but Schilling was a better pitcher by a decent enough margin. My HOF ballot that isn't worth diddly poo would have both of them as well as Clemens, RJ, Pedro, and Bonds plus some others. But that's me. People need to get off the steroid high horse. Most of baseball was juicing and Bonds, Clemens, etc. were still far superior. Keep McGwire and Soso out cause their only accomplishments are related to homers, not great players otherwise. Bonds was a great player who became a God amongst men. Same thing with Clemens.

How do you recreckon Schill was better than Smoltz?

Lemme break it down for you.

Smoltz - 3473 IP 3.33 ERA 81 ERA- 7.99 K/9 2.62 BB/9 78 FIP- 73 xFIP- 78.7 fWAR 66.5 rWAR

Schills - 3261 IP 3.46 ERA 80 ERA- 8.60 K/9 1.96 BB/9 74 FIP- 72 xFIP- 83.2 fWAR 80.7 rWAR

BOth are HOF worth, but Schillign is just better.

People will point to the post season, Smoltz does have better overall PS stats cause he pitched in more games. Smoltz pitched in 41 PS games, totaling 209 innings 199Ks 67 BBs and a 2.67 ERA. Schilling was a force to be reckoned with come the post season too, 19 Games 133.1 IP 120 Ks 25 BBs 2.23 ERA. I personally give Schilling the PS edge too, as he has more Complete games, shutouts and 3 rings 2 of them he was arguably the most important pitcher on the team.

I think Schilling belongs, too. My whole point is this whole "I'm not gonna vote the guy first ballot" is pure horse****. If a guy is worthy, you vote him in right away. If you want some kind of special wing in the HOF for 10 greatest of all time or whatever, knock yourself out. I think most baseball fans are intelligent enough to understand who the greatest of the greats were. Smoltz is a HOF. Schilling is one, too. They shouldn't have to wait 2-3 years so a bunch of old ****s can prove a point.
