So who plays RF?

Torii Hunter could be a cheap solution for a year or two. Compare his offense with Heyward's. Then again, he may not be that cheap. :)

I didn't realize Hunter was still putting up the numbers he is. His defense has fallen dramatically and he's Francoeurish in his approach at the plate. He was a very good CF when he was up here in Minnesota lo those many years ago.

I like this idea. The Dodgers do have a need for a catcher. They might be willing to stick with Gattis at catcher. They also might have interest in BJ since their current group does not include a serviceable centerfielder. How about Gattis plus BJ for Pederson and Ethier/Kemp. With some money coming our way.

Absolutely no way would the Dodgers do that. They wouldn't do Gattis and Minor for Pederson. Maybe just maybe they would do Gattis and Minor for Kemp with them eating a chunk of money. Depending on how much money we were getting I'm not sure I'd want Kemp.

I think that's why the Braves had so many scouts on hand to watch Moncada. If they want to rebuild by 2017 they will need to get some near-MLB impact OF talent in the organization in very short order. Guys like Tomas and Moncada could potentially provide exactly that, and they are the only real chance the Braves have at acquiring that type of talent in the required timeframe.

JUp and/or Gattis isn't going to bring back a young OFer since no team would trade a young impact OF talent for another OFer or a DH. The Braves don't really have anything else that any other team would want. So I say, bring on the Cubans!

That's why you trade Justin Upton and Gattis for high end pitching prospects so then you can flip them or Mike Minor around for the bats you need whenever that time comes. For example:

Trade Justin Upton, Edward Salcedo and Gus Schlosser to the Seattle Mariners for Taijuan Walker and Gabriel Guerrero.
-This would net you a future RF in Guerrero and another top of the rotation arm in walker

The same strategy can be used in trading Gattis. Then again, he may show this year -if he isn't traded- that he can be a serviceable LF.

When the time comes (assuming it's 2016-2017) you trade Mike Minor to someone like the Red Sox (Allen Craig) or the Pirates (Starlin Marte).

An idea of mine:

Royals get Gattis, BJ, and Hale

Braves get Wade Davis and a couple of prospects

Why the Royals do it: They need power and DH with Butler gone. They have been linked to Cruz but may not be able to afford him. BJ could replace Aoki as a 4th OFer and possibly be a reclamation project. Hale could start for them or replace Davis as swing man/long reliever. Trading us Davis helps to offset some of the money they take on with BJ.

Why the Braves do it: Gets us out from under BJ's contract is the main appeal, but Davis also gives us a fantastic swingman for the next several yrs. Prospects that we get will help strengthen the farm.

Obviously, we'd be down to 1 OFer in this scenario, but with the money saved we could sign a couple guys to fill in. Tori Hunter in LF might not be too bad on the cheap. Resign Bonafacio or sign Rasmus for CF.

So after we sign Melky, what do you think his average will be? I say .250 and then he goes elsewhere in 2016 and regains his form and hits .300 for another team.

I know Hart wants to rebuild our long term rotation but we need to get at least 1 young position player back if we trade Upton or Gattis

Another player I wouldn't mind taking a look at for RF is Josh Reddick.

Justin, Carpenter, Avilan, and Graham to Oakland for Gray, Reddick, O'Flaherty, and Jaso.
