So You Want To "Fix" 2B

And don't think calling La Stella up or the other options on the roster will help enough?

Simple fix...

Trade for Mookie Betts.

.399/.462/.601/1.063, 18/12 BB/Ks, 17/20 SBs.

Local kid (Brentwood TN) with Pedroia and Bogaerts in front of him (Pedroia is signed through 2021).

I can't fathom what it'd take to pry him away from Boston right now since they really don't have any particular needs in their system, but if he keeps growing into a 15-20 HR type, you could slide him over to 3B and be looking at an infield with three SSs (Simba, Peraza, and Betts has seen time there) in a couple years when Peraza's ready.

Saw him several times last year in Greenville. Liked him. He worked the count and made consistent, solid contact.

(obviously there are better-informed opinions than mine but he is is a little dude; he had quick, strong wrists but I doubt he's a 20 HR guy.)

Hit 15 last season in 551 PAs - doesn't turn 22 until October. I think 20 is probably pushing it, but I thought the same thing about Simmons.

Alex Wood for Dookie Butts. Get it done Wren.

I'm in if we somehow have the finances available to sign Price and extend Santana this winter. Package Sims with Uggla to convince Toronto to take on Dan's contract.

Price/Santana/Minor/Teheran/WHO CARES???

Before the local accountants go nuts, it's not as out of the question as you might think.

Uggla: -$12,500,000
Medlen: -$5,800,000
Floyd: -$4,000,000
Venters: -$2,300,000
Harang: -$1,000,000

And you'll save roughly another $1,500,000 by replacing Laird with Bethancourt and Schafer with Cunningham. Replacing Doumit with Terdoslavich could also provide another $3 million or so.

That's about $30 million to play with.

It would cost a lot to get Betts. I don't know why they would trade him. Betts is an athletic kid who can play all over the field.

I wouldn't oppose acquiring Betts -- but when is the last time the Braves have traded for a prospect?

I think the structure of the deal makes sense. Alex should have tremendous value maybe even more value than Betts at this point in time.

If the Braves could get this kid for Alex Wood that would be an absolute STEAL! Heck I'd even trade Mike Minor for him. He could solve the LO and 2B problem.

So lets say the Braves trade Mike Minor for Betts and then trade Dan Uggla and 5 mil to Toronto for a C prospect. That then could free up more cash to sign Santana to a long term deal and it would allow Wood to start again.

Lineup:

Mookie Betts - 2B

Jason Heyward - RF

Justin Upton - LF

Freddie Freeman - 1B

Evan Gattis - C

Chris Johnson - 3B

B.J. Upton - CF

Andrelton Simmons - SS

Rotation:

Julio Teheran - RHP

Erving Santana - RHP

Alex Wood - LHP

Gavin Floyd - RHP

Aaron Harang - RHP

If you have the choice between trading Wood and Minor, you trade Wood. Not saying it's a given, but with his mechanics and already having TJ he's likely a trainwreck waiting to happen.

That would solve so much. Betts really looks like he is going to be a stud. I'd absolutely trade Minor and not look back.

That lineup looks so freaking solid. Man, it's making me upset about not having him. lol

What is going on here. Yesterday I asked if Minor or Wood were even trade chips under ideal conditions and got piled on because we dont have enough depth (?).
