So You Want To "Fix" 2B

If the Braves could get this kid for Alex Wood that would be an absolute STEAL! Heck I'd even trade Mike Minor for him. He could solve the LO and 2B problem.

So lets say the Braves trade Mike Minor for Betts and then trade Dan Uggla and 5 mil to Toronto for a C prospect. That then could free up more cash to sign Santana to a long term deal and it would allow Wood to start again.

Lineup:
Mookie Betts - 2B
Jason Heyward - RF
Justin Upton - LF
Freddie Freeman - 1B
Evan Gattis - C
Chris Johnson - 3B
B.J. Upton - CF
Andrelton Simmons - SS

Rotation:
Julio Teheran - RHP
Erving Santana - RHP
Alex Wood - LHP
Gavin Floyd - RHP
Aaron Harang - RHP

Can do a little better...

2B- Betts
RF- Heyward
LF- J-Up
1B- Freeman
C- Gattis
3B- Johnson
SS- Simmons
CF- Cunningham

What is going on here. Yesterday I asked if Minor or Wood were even trade chips under ideal conditions and got piled on because we dont have enough depth (?).
I wouldn't trade Wood for very many things, I think he's good enough to be a 1-2 in this league, easily. I love Minor, he's one of my favorite pitchers, but he can be traded.

Just glancing at Betts's numbers. He looks as a hitter liek TLS with more power. Which is a good thing. I'm not in love with his SB numbers. They're good but not great. Not sure how that translates to the bigs where he faces better catchers and pitchers.

Not sure how his defense pans out.

That being said, aside from him being a righty and having mroe pop. I don't see him as a massive upgrade over TLS. Not enough to part ways with Mike Minor for sure and probably not enough to part ways with Wood. If this kid was a magic bullet the Sox would be looking to trade Pedroia instead.

Really Zito? Really? You know he is DOMINATING AA at 21 years of age right?

77 Steals to 11 CS isn't exactly bad... and 18-3 this year. That's pretty dang good!

It's not bad at all, but for someone with plus plus speed like a report I read I'd expect better. Not terrible probably better than anyone on our team or at least puts him in the class of Jason and Bossman. But it's not like he's Ichiro or something along those lines.

I think the age/level point has become overrated. I think the kid has talent. But I don't know if I'd trade our best or one of our 3 best long term starting pitching options for the difference between him and TLS. Betts has been fantastic in A ball and so far in AA, but lets not get too crazy kid has 1,000 PA, he's hardly proven he can dominate long term and there's a lot of noise in his numbers for that reason. Don't get me wrong if I could have him on my team I'd want him. I just odn't think I'd give up Minor or Wood for him when we have JMO a very viable 2B option in AAA.

Look, the Braves entered the season with a $26M anchor in Uggla. After the first paycheck was issued they could have called up TLS and been no worse off. So does that mean that the FO does not share your conviction that TLS is the answer now or ever?

The Betts kid sounds like the real deal, but would Boston part with him? Pedroia, Bogarts, and Middlebrooks man 2B, SS, and 3B right now, but is Boston satisfied with them?

Another option is Texas. They have a real need for pitching right now, after losing Harrison and Perez. Do they have a 2B prospect that they would trade us for Harang or Floyd? Then we dump Uggla to the Blue Jays for an extra large case of Big League Chew.

Personally wouldn't give up a bag of BP balls for Weeks or Frankiln, but that's ne.

Weeks apparently "fixed" his swing in the offseason and made some changes. He's slashing 333/396/375....so no power yet but I'm sure MIL doesn't want much for him since he isn't their starter.

Weeks is swinging at most pitches than ever, has a higher contact ratio than normal and swings through more pitches than normal. His stuff is all over the board.

If the BoSox are going to trade this Betts kid due to him being blocked by Pedroia, now is the time to do it. His trade value will likely never be higher.

And from all the scouting reports I've read he will be a borderline GG second baseman.

I've actually seen him play he looks like a young Brandon Phillips at 2B. Very athletic with tremendous range and a very good arm. Oh and dude can absolutely rake!!!

Since the Sox dont necessarily need pitching, what would you offer them for Betts or a package?

This past off season they were looking for a RH OFer. Would Sizemore and Betts interest you in moving JUp?
