Some Red State/Blue State Indicia

For those of you who are visual learners, this is a nice video of per capita GDP. But it stops in 2020. You can freeze it at 2010 and 2020 and calculate the growth rates for that decade. The changes in rankings in the video are interesting. You can literally see who is moving up and who is moving down, although the bottom dwellers are sadly consistent. North Dakota did have a nice ride up thanks to shale.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis. You should note there is a difference between GDP and per capita GDP. And (for sturg's benefit) a difference between levels and growth rates.

You'll notice that mine also measures real GDP that accounts for the much higher cost of living up north.

Your numbers don't reflect reality and this is why people are moving to the red states.

The 40% and 19% number are real per capita GDP growth for NY and Florida from 2014 to 2023.

I'm curious to how states that are losing such a large base of their population have such great per capita growth.

If the Statista stats were true people wouldn't be leaving in droves with that kind of growth.

I think I know where the truth is here.

Except for 2020 and 2021, California has been gaining in highly educated young people from other states. Plus of course immigrants (who are more likely to have a degree that native-born Californians). There is something called Dutch Disease that I think explains some of what is going on in California. This is where a very strong and dynamic sector sucks the oxygen of other sectors.

attracting the highly educated certainly explains their current situation and governance

your appreciation for the poorly educated (both the individual and as a state or collective) is duly noted

i also acknowledge that being poorly educated could be regarded as a benefit not a price of liberty

The Democrat/Progressive political movement was one big ponzi scam. Just keep blaming others and hoping the people didn't see their ineptness.

BUT, one man came along and defeated the system when nobody thought they could. I shutter to think what would be happening if HRC won and the progressives took full control of all levers of power.
