California's NIMBYism is a main reason I could never live there. If I lived in a state with a huge energy crisis I'd happily welcome a clean reliable source of energy.
But I wouldn't call it a leftist thing. The number 1 state in the union at producing Nuclear Energy is Illinois.

NIMBYs fear a Fukoshima, 3 Mile Island, or others. NIMBY isn't to one party. It's on a bunch.
It's also being pushed by all sides.
