Some Red State/Blue State Indicia

you seem to really struggle with understanding lagging effects. You see - California is an economic super power today thanks to the work republican government put into it in 1900s. Likewise, if California was ahead of the curve in their nanny state on smoking cigarettes in the 1990's... we wouldn't see the impact of that for 20 or 30 years. It has nothing to do with the complete train wreck of the current government, and the lagging effects will make themselves clear over time (as they've already begun to do so)
I'm not talking just about California. Red states have fallen way behind blue states and other countries when it comes to life expectancy and other basic health outcomes in recent decades. It has nothing to do with lagged governance from some imaginary golden era of Republican rule. I could replace California with New York and any other blue state. Oklahoma had a slightly longer life expectancy than New York in 1970. Now it is a difference of over six years. And not in Oklahoma's favor.
