Some Red State/Blue State Indicia

California and other blue states continue to enact policies that generate better health outcomes, including longer lives. It doesn't happen because of magic or luck or a beautiful natural environment.

Why are those jobs less important than other jobs. My son works as a data scientist at UCSF's medical school. I don't know whether he gets classified as healthcare or education. Both are important. Very important in a modern economy. They are often the drivers of increased longevity and increased productivity. They help keep people healthy for longer more productive lives.

Btw in the past year Florida has added 32,000 jobs in health and education and lost 54,000 jobs in every other category.

Fraud us quite clearly the biggest growth sector in California and Healthcare is the place to claim it.

Shame their tech titans are producing any jobs

Undoubtedly there is fraud in healthcare. I once objected to my doctor because he prescribed an expensive statin. I asked for a cheaper generic one. He thought I was nuts. Part of it of course is the company that makes the new statin sends him to conferences where he can stay in nice hotels and golf as much as he wants. A form of bribery. I see it in my profession. The publisher of the textbook I use is always offering to fly me to conferences at nice hotels. I once calculated how much I was worth to them based on the number of students using their textbook. I am quite a cash cow for this company.

But healthcare spending and jobs are also the source of better health outcomes. An area red states have lagged behind. They keep falling further behind blue states and European countries in basic metrics like life expectancy.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) contracts with Securus Technologies to provide tablets to all eligible incarcerated people at no cost to inmates or the state. In exchange, Securus charges fees for emails, phone calls, video calls, and premium content like movies, games, and music. The tablets use a secure internal network and do not have open internet access. Free content includes religious materials, educational resources, legal materials, and a limited selection of ebooks.

In California, the tablets are also provided by Securus under a vendor contract, meaning Securus bears the device cost in exchange for revenue from paid services (calls, video, entertainment). The state isn't cutting a check for the hardware, though the contract itself is government-administered.
