The gunman who opened fire on an outlet mall in a Dallas suburb Saturday, killing at least eight people, was a man in his early 30s who may have had white supremacist or neo-Nazi beliefs, people familiar with the investigation said Sunday.

Mauricio Garcia, a local resident, had multiple weapons on him and in his nearby car, said people familiar with the investigation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing probe.

Authorities have not released a motive, but a patch on his chest said “RWDS,” an acronym that stands for Right Wing Death Squad, according to people familiar with the investigation. The phrase is popular among right wing extremists, neo-Nazis and white supremacists, they said. In addition to the weapons found on his body, investigators found another five guns inside his car nearby, these people said.

Hahahaha howd I know you were gonna post that?! You are such a a good boy

The Hispanic dude who gunned down a bunch of white people was a white supremacist!

Did wapo ever speculate on the trans shooters motive? They ever gonna release that manifesto

I believe most of the kids Timothy McVeigh killed were white. Just sayin. Sick people with sick ideologies gonna do sick things. Gov Abbott is not wrong in making his primary focus the mental health of the people of Texas. But I think he should also do a little reflection on his contribution to the ideological milieu.

What was Timothy McVeigh's ideology?
View other drafts

Timothy McVeigh was an American terrorist who was convicted and executed for the Oklahoma City bombing, which killed 168 people on April 19, 1995. McVeigh's ideology was a mix of right-wing extremism, anti-government sentiment, and white nationalism. He believed that the federal government was tyrannical and that violence was a legitimate form of political protest. He was also a white supremacist who believed that white people were being persecuted by the government. McVeigh's ideology was shaped by his experiences in the Gulf War, where he saw the deaths of Iraqi civilians at the hands of American soldiers. He also read the book The Turner Diaries, a white supremacist novel that glorifies violence against the government. McVeigh's ideology is a reminder of the dangers of extremism and the importance of fighting for tolerance and understanding.

What were the ethnicities of the people killed in the Oklahoma City bombing?

The Oklahoma City bombing killed 168 people, including 19 children. The victims were of a variety of ethnicities, including white, black, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American.

The ethnicity of the victims is not relevant to the tragedy of the Oklahoma City bombing. The bombing was an act of terrorism that killed innocent people, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or religion.

Authorities are investigating a Texas shooter’s possible links to white supremacist ideology, according to law-enforcement officials with knowledge of the probe, following a killing spree at a suburban Dallas mall on Saturday.

The gunman was identified as Mauricio Garcia, 33 years old, the officials said. He is accused of killing eight people and injuring seven others after opening fire at Allen Premium Outlets in Allen, Texas, before being shot dead by a police officer. He used an AR-15-style rifle in the attack and multiple other firearms were found at the scene, according to the officials.

Law-enforcement officials were examining Mr. Garcia’s social-media accounts, which appeared to show an interest in white supremacy, one of the officials said. After he was killed, Mr. Garcia was found wearing a patch with a white supremacist symbol, according to the official.

The law-enforcement officials said Mr. Garcia had been staying at a hotel before the shooting, and investigators found more firearms there. He was wearing body armor, they said. Authorities were looking into whether Mr. Garcia had worked as a security guard, an official said. Texas public records show a man with the same name with a Dallas address had worked as a security officer before his license expired in 2020.

At least seven people were killed and at least 10 were injured Sunday in Brownsville, Tex., when an SUV struck a crowd waiting for a bus outside a migrant shelter, police said.

Brownsville police investigator Martin Sandoval said the crash happened about 8:30 a.m. local time. The driver, Sandoval said, is a Hispanic male who was hospitalized for treatment of injuries before being taken in to police custody on charges of reckless driving. More charges are expected soon, he said.

Sandoval said the cause of the crash has not been determined, but that police are awaiting results from a blood sample taken from the driver to see if he was under the influence. The driver, apparently injured when his silver Range Rover overturned in the crash, is not cooperating with officers and had not yet been identified, he said.

Luis Herrera, who was among those hit by the SUV, said in an interview that many of the victims already had tickets out of Brownsville, some to reunite with their families. Herrera, 33, who suffered a broken arm and was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon, said the driver was taunting people standing at the bus stop, driving past them and yelling insults.

“He crossed the street and he hit the gas and he drove by my legs, and hurt my arm,” he said in Spanish. “The others, he killed almost all of them.”

He recalled the driver yelling: “You’re invading my property!”

Sandoval said the driver allegedly ran a red light and plowed into a group of people standing at a local bus stop in this border city in southeastern Texas. The victims were standing outside the Bishop Enrique San Pedro Ozanam Center, a migrant and homeless shelter in the border town.
