Sons of Anarchy

Meh. Show needs to end about a season and a half ago.

To me, the show took that bizarre turn to Ireland in one of the early seasons and that seemed to throw a momentary wrench into things. I think the last couple of seasons have been okay, but I think you're right that this could have been condensed.

It took me a couple of days to watch the episode. The current Mrs. 50# hates the show, so I have to catch as catch can on On Demand. I think there had to be an episode like this to set up the dominoes for the super-gigantic finale and things will start falling hot and heavy in the last two episodes. I guess from a literary point of view, this is the episode where everyone comes clean with the reality of the situation and their own role in both creating that reality and fooling themselves into thinking things were different and all actions were justified. Thought Juice was particularly good in this episode.

I imagine there will be a confrontation between Jax and Gemma, but I don't know how it will turn out. My bet is on Jax dying on his father's restored motorcycle, which was featured briefly.

That whole Ireland fiasco was a bit odd to me as well. I was kind of turned off when I think it was last season where they were in a minefield and had RPGs. That was a little over the top and ever since that I've been less interested in the show. Don't get me wrong it's been exciting and it does a good job keeping your guessing which I what we all want.

Hate Gemma but I actually hate Jax even more. How many times in a series can Sutter use the "I promise I'll fill you in later trust me" stall tactic from Jax?

I tried to re-title the thread to warn that there were spoilers in here.

IN the scene where jax was telling Nero to take Jaxs kids to the farm it kinda looked like Jax was saying 'take my kids out of here and keep them away'

Kinda seems like Jax is going to take one for the team

I think that's also why they didn't show what he said to the other presidents and they cut to something else.

I think he will bite the bullet just like JT did... and Jury foreshadowing it earlier by planting the seed to Jax that his pops maybe committed suicide?

Not me. Gemma is easily the most despicable character in the history of television. I can't remember if Jax read his father's entire manuscript or not, but Gemma has been spinning lies and controlling things from the beginning. I think the scene between Jax and Wendy was telling. Wendy had her issues, but Gemma was likely central to breaking up that marriage with her desire to control everything, which led to the Jax/Tara connection and we've now seen how that played out.

I haven't read that much about Sutter's process, but I wonder if he wrote the end before the beginning. The show has gone on a season or two too long with all the meandering and the season in Ireland could have been dropped completely. That said, it's coming to a satisfactory end for me.

Gemma while manipulative and despicable, at least knows what she's doing.

Jax is a wreckless idiot who doesn't think just reacts and that reaction is usually just to kill. And his stupid irrational decision making is what's getting everyone around him killed bar none. The worst and no redeeming qualities from any main character in any television show I've ever watched.

We all knew Juice was gonna get axed, but I was hoping he would stay alive somehow. Didn't like the Unser death either. They could have left that out completely.

Jax has been an out-of-control lunatic for a couple of seasons now and while he has to be held responsible for his actions, the context in which most of his irrational acts have taken place has been constructed by those outside of himself, particularly Gemma (and previously Clay). In a philosophical sense, he's a lost everyman dealing in a world of artifice. It doesn't absolve him and as the show winds down, it becomes obvious that his lack of an authentic core clearly has unearthed his major weaknesses.

There's a generational aspect to the show that I believe is coming out and I don't know if Sutter intended that or not. To me, the main task facing each generation is defining itself. Respecting tradition, but not being captive to it. Jax simply failed at that task.

PS--Felt bad for Juice and Unser. Two of the more tragic characters in the entire story arc from beginning to end.

Disagree, I liked it, just another person that Gemma took down...he loved her from the start and tried to save her at the end and it cost him his life.

I agree. The whole Unser and Gemma death scene was very unsatisfying and missing some essential ingredient. Jax just coldly shooting both of them, Gemma in the back of the head, with no dramatic buildup. Not good. Death seems too good for Gemma. I thought Jax might frame Gemma for killing Unser, save himself and put her in prison with her conscious and her deeds forever. (There's your spinoff series. "Folsom Queen")

If Tara's death is really laying so heavily on him the show hasn't done a good job of displaying that.

Do not click if you don't want to know who dies in the last episode.

Man, Sutter is beyond livid that the book shipped before the series ended on television.

Book discusses the series finale
