Soroka and Gohara

Expects Yuge Games
Soroka is pitching in Rome tonight (supposed to go 4 innings) and Gohara is back from Brazil tomorrow. Bowman speculates Gohara will go to the pen.

I'd rather they both be prepared to pitch in the rotation. I'd ask them both to pitch 3 "rehab" games. Go 4, 5 and 6 innings in those games. Take the one who does best and insert him into the rotation. Move Anibal Sanchez to the pen.

The "loser" in Soroka/Gohara contest should remain in the AAA rotation until the inevitable injury creates an opening in the majors.

I honestly think this might be AA's way of limiting innings with Gohara. As he did mention "I don't like how his innings were increased".

Yep, it's all working out fine. Innings are being kept down. We can showcase Sanchez and maybe trade him for a little something. Soon after that, trade McCarthy for even less of a prospect in basically a salary dump. Consider offers for Teheran, although I don't think AA would deal him if we are still solidly in a playoff position.

I actually really liked gohara in the long relief role.

Why on earth would the Braves choose (assuming they could even move Teheran) to keep Teheran who they owe a bunch of money to next year and is bad over someone they don’t owe any money next year who is a little better?

Keep Teheran for the playoffs? Huh?

For one JT, isn't a bad pitcher. He eats innings and gives you solid production. It would be idiotic to trade a reliable starting pitcher in the middle of a playoff run.

And not sure who you're saying is better than JT. It sure as hell ain't McCarthy or Sanchez.

I guess I don’t know why you think Teheran is good.

I don’t see much of a difference between him and the other two.

I have no real interest in watching him pitch important games.

Same old trade Teheran scenario. In a playoff run, Teheran would be kept unless you're dealing for an ace. No McCarthy level pitchers just to spite your face. That's why southcrack.

3.20 ERA in his last 10 starts (4.03 overall). 1.1 WAR on the year. Better movement on his pitches. There's no way you could watch him over the last month and half and come away with the conclusion that he is a bad pitcher.

me too, except i like the idea of having him be an alternate closer, but a multiple innings version like Gossage was way back in the day. Let Viz/Winkler/Minter handle the later innings every 2 outta 3 games, and the other games let Gohara dominate while those other guys rest up.

then, if we make the playoffs, just imagine what kind of bullpen scenario that would present for the competition. the built in travel days would mean all 4 of those guys would be available for every game - could be nasty!

Hey, I wasn’t suggesting they will or should trade anyone.

I’m just saying in response to someone else’s scenario that I’d be much happier to be rid of teheran than the other two.

I don’t think they will move any of them unless they do trade for pitching.

Gohard is way to ****ing good to be in the pen... control his innings in AAA if you are concerned. But the kid's clock is ticking and he is a stud pitcher.. don't waste his talent as a mop up/ occasional high leverage reliever. McCarthy and Annabel need to be jettison.. if not Mac, then JT.. But Aug 1.. we need a rotation of Newk, Folty, Soroka, Gohard..I don't give a ****

He’s getting good results off a sometimes 90 Mph fastball and there is a good chance that’s smoke and mirrors.

My guess is the period you carved out will be about his best stretch of the season and his era will be closer to 4.5 than his current 4.0.

I have no Interest in paying him 12 m next year but no helping that now, probably.

I don’t think you take Mikes spot from him because you elected to get him rest on the DL. That’s bush league. I don’t believe he was really injured, just a way to get him some rest so he can sustain performance year long...

I think Gohara needs innings, as his brief spring and family leave layoff can’t be discounted. He should take Sanchez spot when earned.

Only one of Gohara and Soroka can be in the rotation unless we go to a 6 man. We've got Folty/Newk/Teheran/McCarthy locked in. Sanchez is only getting a spot start til one of them gets back
