Soroka Tears Achilles Tendon Again, Out for Season

When he had that twinge a month or so ago they did the exploratory surgery and didn’t see anything. They probably missed it then and had him doing to much on it. They should have shut him down then and let him heal up.

If he re-tore it simply walking to the clubhouse... I’m not sure how shutting him down would have helped anything...
 
This could tell us a lot about where AA is and what he thinks about where the team is psychologically before he makes any deals. If there honestly was hope in the clubhouse that Soroka would have been added at some point, you have to wonder if the players start believing the team is snakebit and "it's just not our year" as much as fans do.

If that's the case - and assuming he decides to make any deal(s) at all - does he feel like any deal he makes needs to be more of a "major" deal rather than one that simply helps improve the team around the edges? Does he feel like it has to be something like Haniger and another SP rather than something like Frazier and Rodriguez?

I’m with you. I usually don’t either but he seems like a good dude and has a ton of talent. He has youth on his side so hopefully somebody else does the next surgery and he gets a different result. I honestly didn’t expect him back this year anyways.
 
If he “is” somehow able to make it back in late 2022 or 2023. Will he already be like arb 2, or is the time served on hold because he isn’t playing.

His career and his clock management have been complete letdowns. Soroka looked like the “Ace” workhorse that would be a mainstay for the Braves. Instead just another wasted pitcher that broke down before his time.

Remember that time Snitker saved him for game 3 so he only got to pitch one time vs the Cardinals. Yeah, good times.
 
Having been through rehab after "minor" Achilles surgery, I do not wish that surgery or rehab on anyone. To see someone deal with 3 surgeries to their Achilles over the span of 10 months, holy hell that must be miserable. If he ever pitches again for the Braves, I'd be betting on mid-2023 to 2024 as it wouldn't surprise me if they went extra cautious.

I don’t know all the ins and outs of what happened but to be fair to the surgeon ligament and tendon repairs do fail on occasion for a variety of reasons. Allografts just don’t take for some people. It happened to me when I got my PCL repaired. The fact that his body was rejecting his sutures couldn’t have helped matters either.
 
Obviously coming back from two Achilles tears is not something you want to bet on and the Braves shouldn't expect anything out of Soroka.

That being said, if he missed all of next year and came back in 2023, he would be the same age that Kyle Wright is now (25). I'm not going to get my hopes up, but I hope they keep him around in the org given the upside if he ever were able to come back. You'd hate to see him pitch his age 25-30 seasons with some other team after spending a couple of years rehabbing with Atlanta.
