SP options

As long as the names don't include Anderson, Pache, Waters, or Contreras, go get Seager and Gonzales. Then see if you can cobble enough together with what's left to make an offer for Lynn. You certainly don't want to have Langeliers' name involved, but if it balances out the money somewhat you probably have to consider at least listening.

I'm sure Liberty will cringe at the thought of adding Seager's salary, but it doesn't technically "add" anything for next year since you won't have Hamels anymore. Maybe you could get Texas to take Folty's money back in a potential Lynn deal to help balance things out - they could work with him the rest of this year and decide whether they want to keep him in 2021 as a replacement for Minor.

seeing-eye singles are a bunch of fun tho.
i'm not sure how you can restrict where a defender moves on the diamond. learn to beat it.

I think they are.

I think you could simply make a rule that a defender can't move beyond a certain point before the pitch. It's easy enough.

I would estimate a seeing eye single is about as fun to watch as a hitter going the other way to beat the shift. Seeing novel defenses pop up during a mundane game is also something noteworthy. Playing "I told you so" by the wannabe experts is also part of the draw I imagine.

Is it fun to watch the prevent defense in the NFL? How about stalling the game in basketball, or fouling every possession late in the game? Nope, but it is an effective way to manage a game based around a game clock. Then folks debate the usage of it, and spirited conversation ensues. Then armchair experts get to argue about those strategies the next day.

Same thing with the shift in baseball. Same thing with the 3 batter minimum I imagine...it isn't actually saving any time. The problem with baseball is 30 seconds between pitches over and over and over.

Can't imagine they're going to pull the plug (although you could probably make an argument that they should), but given AA's penchant for big trades I wonder if he'd poke around on Greinke?

Hey look, Detroit tanked the trade value of yet another SP by asking too much for him at the peak of his trade value. Well done guys!

I remember so many were dreaming about a Fulmer trade also. There is a short list of pitchers worth a big package. It’s such a volatile market. I’m shocked we had so much success on all the bullpen guys we acquired.

The main guy I was shocked we didn’t sign was Morton. Maybe Tampa just jumped quicker. He would be nice to have and seemed like a no brainer for AA.

What is the rationale for folks thinking a pitcher like Clevinger is available from a team currently 14-9 and legit WS contenders?

Like...why would they even consider it?

Maybe AA should ask the Yankees about Cole?

Why because he is in hot water for not following protocols.
But you are right anyway thats not what i ask. Lol

They probably will trade Clevinger because that’s how they’ve operated with the pitching factory they seem to have. I won’t be surprised if they keep him down for another 2 weeks and bring him up after they gain another year of control and trade him this offseason

i know he messed up, but that would be a helluva punishment and i can't imagine the relationship being too great after it.

Some possibles for the rotation might be Teheran, Matz, Eovaldi, Perez, Harvey, Boyd, Lynn, Bundy, Walker, Cueto, Gausman

Not a great list. Some can be had for nothing because of expense. Some are really worth nothing and you'd have to hope they rebound. Pretty ugly all the way around.

It's kind of interesting really. I mean at this point, should we sneak into the playoffs, what are we supposed to even do. We literally have no options outside of hoping a couple of our young pitchers step up. I don't see how we don't either make a trade or sign a cast off.

Take a quick look at Baseball Ref stats for Indians. They have a very very good rotation even without Clevinger and Plesac. But dont stop there, Look at the offense stats or more in particular THE LACK of ofense. And dont forget Francona's insistence on a cohesive club house.
Now having posed that, do any of us even have any idea how relevant this season is. I grant that it is more important to small market teams like Cleveland and individual owned teams probably much more than a corporate team like Atlanta.

While Im at it, Morosi hinted that Atlanta may be a landing place for Tiajuan Walker. I dont have a ton of faith in Morosi but he said it on MLB Today this morning.

One thing that needs to happen is Fried needs to pitch every 5 days through this run of off-days we have coming up. We have to maximize him. They already have had him pitch with five days off through the first one, which kind of irked me.

Not because he'd heard anything - simply because we'll automatically be linked to any "available" SP.

The Mariners are our best fit for a couple reasons...

1.) DiPoto has been quoted as saying he doesn't expect a lot of "big" trades, but he does think the deadline could be pretty busy with challenge deals involving young players rather than prospects changing hands.
2.) They'd be a perfect one-stop shop for our needs - particularly if he's not going to require that he's getting prospects whose clocks haven't started back in a deal.

Braves Get:
Seager ($19 million)
Gonzales ($950,000)
Walker ($2 million)

Mariners Get:
Inciarte ($7.25 million)
Riley ($568,500)
and 2 of Wilson ($563,500), Touki ($563,500), or Newk ($593,500)

They save a significant chunk of Seager's money and get his potential replacement in Riley. Ender can slide in as their 4th OF this year and next while they're getting Kelenic and Rodriguez adjusted at the MLB level. They get two arms with upside if they can harness them. They might really like Touki since he looks a lot like Dunn on the surface.

If AA could pull something like that off and you somehow get lucky enough to get something from Folty or Hamels (or Anderson) down the stretch you really might be onto something.

Problem with Seager is his 22 option becomes a player option which he'd surely opt into. I dont know if AA wants to do that.

Just have to opener every game not pitched by Max and hope the offense if healthy can score enough. But yeah, even if the Braves make it, the rotation is just in such bad shape to even do anything. Shame really, the one year the Braves have a good backend of the pen, the rotation is decimated by injuries.
