Spring Training 2015

I'm wondering where the new guy starts out. Mississippi or Gwinnett? Good minor league stats, but a bit of a slow riser.

He's a Rule 5 pick that we got off waivers, so he must be added to our 25-man roster and stay up the season or be offered back to the Cubs (Miami originally claimed him from the Cubs in the Rule 5 before waiving him this ST).

#Braves lefty Outman sent back to ATL to have his shoulder checked today, team official said.

Outman had his left shoulder evaluated today. It began bothering him after Thursday's outing. #Braves

My comments: If Outman is released and/or hurt what Julio stated earlier certainly fits. I thought they were going to release him anyway after what Fredi said about him not long ago, but now he may be gone either way.

Tough break for Outman . . . and for the Braves. I assume they can release him w/o any kind of MLBPA grievance. Unless it's really minor, that's probably the way to go. Get Coppy a Red Bull, a phone and the current list of available LOOGYs.

I figured it was a given that Outman was a goner either way after we dropped Russell and then Fredi stated that we need another lefty that can get lefties out besides Avilan.

DOB adds this:

@DOBrienAJC
Safe to say we can expect #Braves lefty Outman to start season on DL, regardless of how the checkup went.

Yea, I know. That's also why you posted what you did in response to dak after dak had said he liked him. :)

Look at it this way, if Fredi keeps this up our bullpen is bound to end up worse (maybe a lot worse) rather than such a strength. And if so that can only help the chances that Fredi is let go after this year.

Fredi is almost guaranteed the 2017 team at the very least unless he blows up and does something incredibly personal and stupid.

Bottom line: I am trying to be hopeful that he'll be gone at least by then if not by 2016. If he's not then you and I may end up pulling all our hair out and going mad. :)

The Mets have placed young outfielder Cesar Puello on outright waivers, ESPN.com’s Adam Rubin reports. Out of options and a roster spot, Puello has long seemed destined to be headed either to another organization or off of the Mets’ 40-man.

My comments: The Braves should be interested in Puello given their need for OF help including someone who can play CF. Puello is skilled enough that someone with a worse record than us could put a claim in first (including the Phillies). Also, today is his 24th birthday so he got waived on his birthday. Happy birthday! :)

PS: My guess is we don't get him even if we put a claim in, Phillies shouldn't pass on him either given their outfield and injuries, etc. They have room on their 40-man too so would seem a no-brainer for Philly.

Absolutely worth a shot. We are desperate for some young talent in the OF. Obviously was waiver for a reason but definitely should take a look

It's Puello's 24th birthday today. Great birthday present, huh? (My reading skills have turned to sh*t. I see you posted this info already.)

Puello is one "l" short of former Braves' pitcher Charlie Puleo. Does that mean he's twice as good?

Yea, no kidding. Hopefully he surprisingly drops to us, we claim him, and he has a great season vs the Mets to thank them. :)

That said, the more I read about him and more I think about it. I'd be surprised if Philly or another team that had a worse record than us doesn't put a claim in for him. Philly certainly has the need and roster space to do so. But I hope they just don't like him for some reason and pass and we get him because he has 5-tool potential skill wise according to reports and is still only 24 years old. Plus I like that he is right handed and can play all three OF positions.

Twins might be interested if Puello can play CF. Twins' CFers are currently Jordan Schafer and Shane Robinson. Buxton waits in the wings, but Twins rarely have guys learn at the big league level. They are notoriously slow in promoting players. Aaron Hicks is clearly on his way out in Minnesota.

Puello played 115 games in CF in the minors, though has more games in RF than CF. He also has played some games in LF too.

Right-hander J.R. Graham, selected by the Twins out of the Braves organization, has made Minnesota’s 25-man roster, according to Twins director of baseball communications Dustin Morse (on Twitter).
