I really hope Heyward figures out how to hit for power again. That guy should be a damn MVP.

All that's nice but those guys are on other teams now. Hard as it was to let these guys go, it was the right thing to do. Gattis will spend some time on DL. He's not that good of player anyway on the defensive side. For me, you got to play both sides. Heyward will continue to be about half the player he should be offensively. Upton will be missed, but until he signs an extension with SD I still think he returns to Atlanta next year.

Both Heyward and Upton are coming back to Atlanta Kenny Lofton-John Hart style!

After today
Jason Heyward "ripping it up" in ST.
350 .409 .350 .759

Still only singles.

Thats the problem. His swing just looks so unnatural like he is trying to hard to be level in the zone. That is what is sapping his power.

Who gives a damn what he does? He's not a Brave.

He's an ex-Brave, so I'm interested. He's also a really talented player with a horrible bobbing/re-gripping flaw in his swing that is holding him back from being an MVP type player. I'm very interested to see if another team can get him to try and fix it.

And your point is???

Heyward definitely has some issues with his swing. However, going forward whenever you look at a hitter's swing, only take notice after his front heal hits the ground. That's when the swing begins. All of the other movements until that point are just window dressing and won't have any impact on what happens next. Generally, when a hitter's front heal hits the ground, he is loaded and his hands are just above the shoulder and the bat is at a 45 degree angle perpendicular to the spine (not wrapped around the neck). If that isn't the case, then adjustments need to be made.

The only real point with all these numbers is that ST stats are pointless. And nothing will ever change that.

Veras was off to a horrendous start, but I was still a little surprised to see him go so early. His velocity was good, and he has a decent track record. No huge loss though.

Something else to monitor as cuts are made is that James Russell can be released before April 1 and we'd only have to pay have 25% of his contract. Same applies to other players who were tendered a contract through arbitration, but he's the only one on the bubble.

Didn't see this posted, but Fredi updated the media on the roster competition for position players before yesterday's game for anyone who didn't see it . . .

@DOBrienAJC
If camp ended today, Fredi G said #Braves would go w/ infielders Freeman, Peterson, Callaspo, Simmons, CJohnson, Gosselin (and 2 catchers)

@DOBrienAJC
If Markakis is ready, #Braves right now would go OFs Gomes, EY Jr (CF), Markakis, and EPerez, Almonte, KJ, Terdo compete for 2 spots...
