Spring Training 2015

First Markakis lineup. Freddie may be our cleanup hitter.

Oddly enough, I like that. I think it'll bring some stabilization into the lineup. I know Markakis is a lefty, but he hits well from both sides.

I am less enthusiastic and you, largely because I keep seeing the names Almonte and Callaspo. I can’t make myself believe that in two weeks, those two are going to show us enough that they are better than other options that deserve a longer look in limited time — despite the obvious options/contract issues. What do you see that I don’t?

When the Braves and Cardinals began discussing the trade that eventually sent right fielder Jason Heyward to St. Louis, the Braves first asked for Martinez. Mozeliak refused, and the Braves accepted Miller instead.

Would anybody here have drastically preferred Martinez over Miller?

I would and makes sense the Cards would prefer him over Miller. Martinez has a great arm. He just needs to refine the way he goes about attacking lefties.

What do you think we will see?

I'd personally like:
EY/Perez CF
Peterson 2B
Markakis RF
Freeman 1B
Simmons SS
CJoh 3B
Terdo/Cunningham LF
C-Beth C

I thought Folty was pitching today... but the box score has Kohn as the starter.

Braves lead 2-0... Markakis flied out in first AB

CJoh with two walks. This last walk got him on after the Almonte single, Simba hits a double to bring both guys in.

If Simmons is actually improving this drastically at all, it could make for an interesting offense.

I thought one report about this said the Braves wanted Miller and Martinez but the Cardinals would only do Miller and Jenkins. Whatever the case, I can see why the Cardinals didn't want to trade Martinez.

Wow, if Simmons hits better this year along with not a black hole with CB and whoever is in CF.

Markakis will hit. I have no doubts in my mind.
