Spring Training 2015

Eh, its just frustrating becuase they have the money and could have brought an impact bat on the international market. I'm just disappointed that avenue wasn't capitalized on. The organization just seems real gun shy now after Upton/Uggla. Can't play scared.

Or with an undiagnosed oculomotor dysfunction.

Yep. I actually think the gun shy element played a huge role in the decision to go for the Mukaki Rebuild.

I'm speculating Stults over Wandy for #Braves rotation. Should know for sure later today.

I'm not sure which I'd prefer. I like Wandy a decent amount but his health scares me. So...

Teheran RHP

Wood LHP

Miller RHP

Stults LHP

Cahill RHP

?

Members of the #Braves organization are split on Jaime. So there's still a chance this could change

76' will be fuming.

I'd prefer to keep both, but wondering if Wandy now represents too heavy a financial burden given the recent addition of Cahill. If not, I read somewhere that Stults was open to a bullpen/swingman role and I'd give him a shot there and see if Wandy can cut it until Minor returns (then ship him off).

It seems a waste to release Wandy given his performance this spring. He'll be snatched up.

Braves released Todd Coffey, Jose Constanza, Greg Smith, Tyler Tewell, Blake Brown, Cody Livesay, Travis Mattair, Luis Merejo Carlos Sanchez

Tyler Tewell is a bit shocking. I though the organization liked him? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else....

Gary Brown claimed by the Cards. Why does the FO refuse to take any chances on offensive help? We're desperate for OF help and both Gary Brown and Cesar Puello are out there. Both can play CF. Chances are they won't become impact players but why not take a chance on these guys?

Damn. It's disappointing that Wandy didn't end up having trade value, but I can't say I'm shocked.

Possibly for the same reason that was a likely factor in choosing Stultz over him - his health concerns. I don't think anyone will be surprised if someone else scoops him up (as well as Russell), but there likely weren't many teams lining up to give up anything of much value when they knew he or Stults could walk today and there will be other options becoming available this weekend.

Where would Gary Brown be an upgrade??? Looks like he'd be pretty redundant to me. Tough to even call Puello much of an upgrade either
.

Brown (2,506 PAs) - .277/.342/.415/.757

Puello (2,341 PAs) - .282/.356/.416/.772

Joe Benson (3,536 PAs) - .254/.347/.420/.767

Todd Cunningham (2,200 PAs) - .278/.349/.372/.721

Eury Perez (2,903 PAs) - .305/.360/.384/.744

BTW - all these waiver claims everyone wants to make eventually do have a cost. Each player on outright waivers that gets claimed costs the claiming team $20,000 - this ain't everybody's ESPN league.

Agreed.

Overall, I think Hart / Coppy played the 5th starter acquisition process pretty well. Instead of the "obvious" path of just signing a Harang-type for $5-6m, we were able to test drive both Stults and Wandy risk-free for 6 weeks before committing a roster spot or money. We end of getting Stults at a nice value, and Wandy at least gave us an option if we were not able to acquire another SP.
