I didn't "character assassinate" anybody. Its just that you are not hearing the "we hate we had to do this" like you did with Millwood years ago. There was regret in that trade. There wasn't much here. There was no public hesitation you might say. I don't have to back anything up. The silence does it for me.

The economics of baseball stunk then, the economics of baseball stink still after the Heyward and Upton trades.

Erm, yeah. That's bull****.

Hope springs eternal . . .

@mlbbowman
The #Braves are still talking to teams about moves that could affect their roster plans. Roster must be submitted by 3 pm ET

No surprise, this: Braves have released Matt Capps from minor league contract. He was sent down early and never was able to find lost velocity.

Yes, there was. Hart repeatedly said after the trade that Heyward was a great young player that he would love to retain. He even insinuated that he might try to go after Heyward in the off-season. Quit making **** up.

I am sorry I didnt hear that. But I still say he could've played himself into the core ie. The guys the Braves couldn't deal. He didn't do that. I don't make s--- up its an opinion!!!!

Not to keep perpetuating the Heyward thing, but if he had had a good 2013 he would have been signed to a longer term contract with Freeman, Simmons, and Kimbrel. Probably would have gotten CJ's money.

Ciriaco left off 25 man roster! Outman in his place. Outman will almost certainly be DL'd, so this just seems to be a move to buy the Braves time in looking for better bat.

Let's assume that Heyward had a great couple years in 2013 and 2014. His 2010-2012 go exactly as they did in the real world, but he breaks out in 2013 (instead of just having the solid season he did). Let's say that Jason hits .280/.370/.550 in both 2013 and 2014, with his usual extraordinary defense and baserunning. He becomes everything we ever dreamed of him becoming.

How do we re-sign him, then? All we've heard since the trade was that Heyward was demanding an outrageous, exorbitant contract, and that's with his relatively disappointing seasons the last two years. That being the case, what sort of contract would he want with two MVP-caliber years under his belt? Those seasons probably wouldn't have changed any of the on-field results too much.

Is there any way we could have re-signed that Heyward? Is there any way in hell Liberty ponies up the requisite contract for the new, improved, Troutized J-Hey? I fail to see how. This franchise hasn't shown any stomach for those kinds of deals.

I would certainly hope so. 13 pitchers is somehow even dumber than Pedro Ciriaco.

That just tells me that they are having some success in some discussion somewhere. Probably a pipe dream, but I hope it is somehow JBJ!

I wouldn't mind taking a flier on Cameron Maybin. Read that San Diego has been aggressively shopping him (and Carlos Quentin, who I would have zero interest in) as well as offering to eat a sizable chunk of his contract.

Braves placed OF Dian Toscano on the restricted list.
A Cuban defector, Toscano has yet to report to the Braves due to visa issues. He's expected to arrive soon and will be assigned to a minor league affiliate when he does.

There was also speculation about Ben Revere by some on twitter and in the past the Braves were rumored to be one of the teams that made a call on him. But at that time Philly was asking too much, not surprising given their GM as he seems to ask for too much on everyone. Anyway, maybe they're checking on trading for him since he's said to be available.

Whatever the case I wouldn't give up much for Revere as he's not good in CF, -18 DRS last year alone due to poor range, bad routes on balls (which probably is partly why he has poor range despite his speed) and a noodle arm. However, he did lead the league in hits and is a much better corner outfielder. So if we traded for him he'd have value down the road if played there. He could probably be a solid defender in LF (same as EYJ basically) but neither of them look good in CF.

I figured Viz would go on the restricted list to make room on the 40-man, but I didn't think about adding Toscano to it. That clears two 40-man spots between the two of them.
