Spring Training Gamethread/Discussion

Unfortunately unless they can find a taker for Uggla, that's not going to happen.

Thats absurd TV. Not trying to call you out or anything..just more of frustrated at the Braves if they do this. Uggla is finished. Everyone in the league knows this. nobody is going to trade for him. Someone will give him a minor league deal if we cut him but who cares. he will suck there. The Braves just need to cut him and not even try to experiment with his sub 200 average. OH YAY! He will hit a homerun every two weeks!

Tommy still keeping his insane patience and BB rate.

I'm fine with giving Dan a month. Will save some service time on Tommy, maybe play well enough that we can trade him and save at least 10M.

Even saving half that would be more than worth it. Stella is ready.

I'm sorry...you guys are delusional if you think that:

a) Uggla will perform well
b) Any team is going to trade for him

It's too bad he isn't a righty, as it appears he would be a perfect number 2 hitter (maybe not necessarily this year) between Heyward, Freeman, JUpton, & Gattis.

But with his plate discipline he should also make a viable 8 hole hitter in front of the pitcher.

Hopefully long- term Simmons can improve and mold into that #2 hitter.

Heyward

Simmons

Freeman

J Upton

Gattis

C Johnson

BJ

LaStella

With the improvement Heyward showed against lefties last year I'd consider putting Heyward/LaStella back to back. Always good to have a lefty hitter in the two hole. Then I would put J-Upt in the 3 hole. I have a feeling that he will have a huge season as well.

Bottom line is that if the Braves are serious about winning this year then they should have no plans of bringing Uggla to Atlanta.

That's a little too insightful

Braves should not be worrying about service time. Its all about having the best possible team going into Cobb County. The payroll will take care of itself when we are filling the stadium.

One month off for him gives us a whole year of control. Hell like 10 days in the minors gets us another year.

I might be in the minority here, but I'm all for giving Uggla a chance to prove that he still can be a productive MLB player.

Vision problems are serious and it takes time to readjust if the procedures work. Hopefully for Dan that is the case and he figured it out.

I just have a hard time believing Dan absolutely lost it, I mean, has there ever been a player that has fallen off a cliff any faster. He goes from one of the more feared righty power hitters in the game to a guy who can't get a hit once a week.

I certainly knew that the back end of that extension to expect declined production but not to this extent.

Even if he can show any glimmer of his past performance to be a power bat or utility guy off the bench would be ok IMO.

As much as I want Tommy starting the year as our 2nd baseman, I have to agree that starting him in AAA for a few weeks, saving a year of control, does make sense. With all the guys on our team making a lot of money over the next several years, keeping costs down anywhere we can has to be considered. I think Tommy could be nearly as good as Matt Carpenter, and you see what kind of contract he just got. Besides, a little more time in Gwinnett certainly won't hurt him. And who knows, maybe, just maybe, Uggla does enough to at least get someone to take on a few million of his remaining salary.
