Wren should of had enough depth to cover 3 starters going down

I know you are poking fun but I believe that we do have depth to cover 3 starters for a month or so. I really believe that Ian Thomas will surprise some people and then you have Hale who could pitch for a month till Floyd is ready.

Graham with a nice inning with two groundballs.

He could really change our outlook if he can get healthy.

You really want to trust a guy that was pitching in indy ball at age 25? As a starter?

I don't really think we have much of an option at this point. I doubt a team is going to trade a reliable starting pitcher at this point in the year and every team is going to hold the Braves feet to the fire.

I trust the Braves scouts and they obviously saw something in this guy that they liked. He hasn't dissapointed as of yet. I'm not saying he is going to be great or anything but someone that can hold the fort down until a trade can happen or someone else breaks out.

With the history of our rotation, that is EXACTLY what he should've prepared for. It happens every plunking year just about, even with relatively healthy rotations. Laugh all you want, but it is kind of obvious now, isn't it?

Bases clearing double!! Of Jonathan Papelbon as well.

Happy that Uggla is doing well but I think its fools gold. We need to ride STELLA!

So what 3 starters would you have suggested we signed to stash in aaa in case of injuries. The problem is most guys good enough to start will be in someone's rotation.

Yeah, that's a real constraint. Maybe you can stash starters 6 and 7 in the pen. But you start running out of roster spots. How good an 8th starter can you get on a minor league contract? Garcia is probably better than what most teams have as their #8.

We decided to let Garcia make a run at #5, so there was definitely room in the rotation for a legitimate solid #3-4. With Hale and Wood (and Floyd returning), we really only needed that one legitimate solid #3-4. It was clear we were taking a huge risk by leaving that wound untreated. The problems may have become too glaring to ignore while there is still plenty of time to fix it. That's the only good that could come out of this.

EXACTLY. Especially considering the other risks in the starting five.

But that is just one starter. Braves had depth behind that. But when you are starting at two starters being out probably from the start of the year and another iffy in Minor then thats a whole different ball game.

I'm just not sure that you can prepare for that the way you wanted the Braves to.

In hindsight...relying on Beachy for anything this year was a mistake.

This was really my concern, and it went beyond the garden-variety early season depth considerations.

He just hasn't looked anywhere close to his former levels of performance, even when the results haven't seemed too bad—and then of course he had the set-back in his return last season.

The Braves are not able to sign established starters to enough money that they accept an assignment to AAA. The Yankees can't\don't even do that.
