Spring Training Gamethread/Discussion

Apparently, the Gnats brought in their right fielder to be a fifth infielder. And Gosselin hit the ball to right field and ended up with a triple.

Yeah, Matt Williams is an interesting guy and is experimenting with a number of different things. One of them being 5 infielders in situations like that late in the game. (probably would be used when a run loses game, Im sure)

I saw Bobby Cox do that once. But it didn't work. Also saw the Reds do it several years ago. I can't recall if it worked in that situation or not.

Breaking down the WINNING box

Gosselin, now a non-roster invitee, three run triple against a five-man infield

Terdoslavich entered the game late, 0-0, BB, R, outfield assist (doubled runner off first to end game)

Simmons 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI

Gattis 1-2, 2B, RBI

Freeman 1-3, R (.462)

JUp (welcome to 2014) 2-2

La Stella (late entry) 0-1, BB, R

Constanza two OF errors

Medlen 3 IP, 1 H, 3 K, 0 R

Hursh (WP) 2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 K

Graham 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R

Jamie 1 IP, 0 H, 1 K.

Strasburg 2IP, 1 H, 1 K

Had to laugh at AJC article declaring that the big club was 'finally' noticing Schlosser. Two-time org. pitcher of the year, yet no one figured him to be in bullpen mix.

I don't think there will be enough interest in an individual spring training game to merit its own thread. Maybe we should label this the spring training discussion thread.

Ok, then maybe I will start reading again during the season. Too much of the same arguments to wade through when just trying to see whats going on that day. It would be one thing if the discussions were changing from day to day in relation to the game that was played that day. Back to box scores only for me.

Edit: I wasn't talking about a new gamethread for each game. Just one that doesn't get cluttered with the same long discussion about Garcia.

People made the same arguments about Sosa (who pitched like that for longer than FOUR starts). After going 13-3, he followed with a 3-11 season. That's pretty much what we have to look forward to.

Hey at least we aren't the Rangers. They had to sign Joe Saunders in order to round out a rotation. OOF.

I'd hope that this discussion doesn't discourage anyone from reading this great board. Spring training results just really don't matter so discussions about the results of the game aren't going to be stressed. I do understand where you are coming from though and I apologize if my contribution has pushed you away.

:hand: ...

Today's game on MLB.TV ... looking forward to finally seeing some of these BSOMLs in action.

I love discussion, it's just when trying to keep up with the games via the Gamethread it makes it tough to get through when the discussions in the middle of that days game aren't about that game. I disagree about the Spring Training Results not mattering. They should be taken with a grain of salt, but they are very important because of the impact it can make on Roster decisions, which will impact the entire season.

So please don't get me wrong. I want discussion, and I want them in the game thread. It is just when same discussion takes up the majority of the thread, then it becomes tough to weed through it. I just think the Garcia stuff, which is important and a worthwile discussion warranted being moved out of the "Gamethread". I do agree we don't need a new thread for each game. Just if the discussions becomes bigger than the game, start a new topic. I might even want to chime in on those discussions.

I'm happy to only discuss Garcia in this thread on days he pitches. We also have another thread for discussing roster decisions. We can use that to discuss Garcia/other roster decisions ad infinitum. That would reduce the clutter here.

That's really the whole point I was trying to make.

Cant blame them, honestly.

Lot of question marks with Holland out, Harrison's back, and minus Perez/Darvish, big ?'s right now.

Game day threads for the regular season are fine. Need not worry.
