Bottom 5

2-2

Heyward homered in the 3rd, Doumit is 2-2. That's about all of the action for the good guys.

Laird is day-to-day with a lower back thing. That might be a ruse, his being a cylon and all.

Breaking down the box:

Schafer two more strikeouts today. Of all the people who needed to be ready for the start of action, he has not shown it.

Doumit 2-3 (triple, RBI, SB), only four hits total. Gonna love this guy hitting in the clutch. Laird has a back problem? Hard to imagine a catcher getting completely over something like that in the course of the season.

Carpenter had a near-perfect inning (HBP); hoping he won't have a hangover from giving up the Uribe homer and is equally valuable this year. OK innings from Lamm (dark horse) and Schlosser (no one seems to love him). Obispo, Martin not ready for prime time.

The great thing about Heyward's homerun was that it came off a lefty. Aside from 2010, Heyward has for the most part struggled against lefties, especially when it comes to doing damage.

He used to drill them to left (between SS and 3B), but then he moved off the plate even farther and can't do it. Wish he would step to the plate just a little.

Yeah, in 2010 he was deadly in taking lefties to LF. Especially early in April and May of that year.
