ST 3/20 - Wilson on hump - no DH- on TV!

Camargo has a career 118 wRC+ as L as R. I thought that was valuable

Yeah, but he hasn't been anywhere close to that vs. lefties since 2018 (granted... only around 100 at-bats)... that number is heavily inflated by his 2017 and 2018 years...

2020: 64 wRC+
2019: 73 wRC+

He's just not a good baseball player and 2018 was obviously an anomaly.

I don't pretend to understand all these stats, but it seems johan was still hitting lhp hard in 2019 without good results. Fangraphs says he had hard contract on 46.8% as a R vs L. I looked up a great hitter (FF) for reference. FF vs rhp in 2019 had a hard contact rate of 50.0%. Now, camargo didn't have near that hard contact rate in 2020.

Camargo has looked awful for 2 years now and his numbers largely support what the eyes tell you. If he were good defensively, you wouldn't care that his bat is fading. But at this point, he provides no real value, other than being a switch hitter off the bench. The problem with that is that he is so horrendous from the left side of the plate, him being a switch hitter really doesn't provide any added value.

I have said this for weeks guys. This is our team as it stands. We are going to battle with Pache and Ender platoon. We will have Riley starting with either Panda or Lamb in the wings as a safety net. The rest of the bench with be filled with utility type players with no offensive upside and a weak backup catcher. I like Contreras but I doubt he breaks camp with us.

If your hope is we grab someone else’s garbage before the season starts then give up now. Contenders don’t grab garbage. We are riding this team until we can make upgrades via trades.

I've felt like we were looking for players that don't make other squads still...although that doesn't instill confidence, AT ALL.

We grabbed Anibal as a ST cut in 2018. We signed Josh Tomlin in 2019 after the Brewers cut him. We also traded for Matt Joyce in 2019. So AA has shown a willingness to bring in guys at the end of ST to fill out the roster.

If Riley doesn't figure it out and Pache/Ender fall on their faces... our lineup will turn pretty putrid pretty quick. I still think Pache will be fine... in the limited amount of time I've watched him this spring, he hasn't looked over matched... just mainly bad luck. But, I hope AA has a plan to be aggressive to upgrade the lineup in case the worst case scenario happens. I am more concerned about Riley... I just don't have a ton of faith.

I agree. There are always a few arms out there. Bats are harder to just pick up.

Our lineup most certainly will not be putrid no matter if both those things happen. Acuna, Freeman, Ozuna, and Ozzie are all very good/elite hitters. Swanson and TDA are above average hitters. The only thing that will prevent us from being a very good offensive team in 2021 is injury or major regression from one of our top hitters.

The post was supposed to read "the bottom of our lineup will turn putrid pretty quick"

Camargo is probably an above average hitter vs LHP. If all he can do is hit LHP a little bit and play 3B, that's not really a useful player on a roster trying to give Riley 400+ PAs.

The Lamb/Camargo platoon at third is actually the backup for Riley and corner outfield spots. If the corner outfielders get hurt, Riley probably moves to the outfield and Lamb/Camargo slide into the lineup.

I also think Waters has a good chance of being a significant player for the major league team in the second half. Maybe in center.

That would be nice if either Lamb or Camargo were showing any life. Riley too for that matter.

It’s like all the options for 3B and the 3rd OF spot (CF or RF with Acuna in CF) are falling flat. We are looking at watching zeroes offensively in 3 lineup positions, and half of the C lineup spot when TDA rests. That’s a lot of dead PAs.

Riley hit ball well Saturday and today. I could be misremembering Saturday

Watching a called strike on a change up. another called strike on a curve then fouling off a fastball on late swing then Ks on fastball is not hitting the ball. Today 0-4 with another K

Did not play Sun

Sat no hits, 1 BB, 1 K and 2 LOB in 2 ABs

Total ST= .200 Avg, 0 HRs, 7 Ks, 2 BBs

What if told you all good ABs weren't rewarded with a hit? He hit a ball deep against a great pitcher in the 1st. He hit a LD right in to the shift in the 5th. When I'm listening to ST games, I'd much rather hear a smash that's out than a seeing eye ground ball for a single

Watching on TV is far better for understanding an AB. Fly to CF was to edge of warning track.

To be honest with you and others, I am not a Riley fan but call things as I see them.
