Stanton

We take Headley, Ziegler, and a couple good prospects and get Ozuna back

I wasn’t thinking a real 3 team trade, but there are many possibilities that could work.

Something as simple as Headley in a salary dump, all the way to super complex deals involving Ozuna and Headley to the Braves. Deals could involve the Braves taking extra salary from the Marlins, or kicking in prospect value.

Sure would be fun to see the MLB roster upgrades with actual MLB players, that’s for sure.

Been saying for a while that the Yankees could be the place.

Also been saying for months that a smart agressive team that's willing to take on money was going to take the Marlins to the cleaners because the fish are a wounded creature.

Hopefully the Braves are smart enough to insert themselves as part of a 3 way deal and get some of the value the fish are having to give up.

A deal to send Stanton to New York is “close if not done,” a source tells Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle

Eff the Yankees.

I hold no ill will toward Stanton and don't wish injury on anyone, but I do hope this trade bites them in the ass and they are stuck with a 30+ million albatross.

His contract is a steal compared to what future stars are going to get in the near future.

His contract will never be a steal. Harper will break the bank. Machado.... it depends on how he bounces back from a solid but not great 2017. Regardless, it's likely Stanton will remain one of the 5 highest paid players for quite sometime. I would guess at least the next 6 years.

That isn't a steal.

Stanton is new age entitled doesn’t want to work for anything player. Will only play for a good to great team. Lebron and the decision have ruined everything.

Braves could take them both off their hands if it cost very little outside taking money? Gardner would be an upgrade in RF to start the season, and in LF once Acuna's up, if the Braves could dump Kemp (and/or Markakis); or he could be turned around in a trade. And Headley's only got a year left on his contract, and is as viable an option at 3B as any the Braves have now.

But we've been told that revenue projections were missed so badly that the franchise is broke.

Gleyber to 2B, Andujar to 3B maybe?

Headley and Gardner would be great, but I can't see us taking on another $10+ million OFer. Would have to be guaranteed someone else was taking Markakis or Kemp IMO.

Maybe send him and a second-tier prospect to the Royals for Herrera? Would save us ~ $2.2 million.

They might keep Gardner and rotate Gardner, Hicks, Stanton, Judge, and one of them DH's.

Makes more sense, kill two birds with one stone.

I could see them shop Headley though.

Makes more sense for them to trade Gardner and keep Headley if Starlin Castro is going to the Marlins. They still would have Hicks and Ellsbury (very expensive fourth outfielder whose contract probably can't be moved) in addition to Judge and Stanton in the outfield.

I think the jury is still out on judge (pun intended). Judge’s ops last season was .147 more than his milb career ops. I do admit I rarely keep up with these things, so it could be a common occurrence

Yeah. I will say I was surprised by judge last season. But the Ks are still there so we will see how the pitchers attack him this season.

Yeah. I expect some regression from Judge. The way the Stros pitched him the playoffs might be a preview of the adjustments the league will make against him.

Yeah, and I wouldn't think AA would bother replacing Markakis with a more expensive stopgap unless he were going to play on Moose or Frazier as well. If you could somehow unload BOTH Kemp and Markakis, replace them with Gardner and play Acuna in RF, and upgrade 3B you might be getting somewhere, but that's asking an awful lot. Gardner can't play RF, so taking him on only makes sense if you're going to hold onto Nick and keep Acuna down all year (which obviously wouldn't be the worst thing).

2020-2021 look to be our prime contending years. I say that because the Kemp deal expires after 2019. And Freeman's deal expires after 2021. I think those considerations should be given some weight (and please note I say some weight not most or all of the weight) with respect to what we do this off-season at third and elsewhere. Signing someone like Frazier, as others have noted, might work well in 2018 and 2019, but carries some risk beyond that.
