Starting Pitching

You people are weird and I'm just going to use names.

Snitker being Snitker, he could very well place an out-sized importance on experience going into the LDS. So I could easily see him going Keuchel-Teheran in the first two games. Sorting out the Soroka-Fried-Foltynewicz trio...well, I imagine (and hope) AA's going to play a significant role in the planning there.

Barring something crazy happening, the top 3 will be DK/Fried/Soroka in some order then Julio or Folty as the #4.

Gabe predicted the rotation would be Soroka/Keuchel/Fried/Folty, but thought the team could give some consideration to Soroka's Home/Road splits and maybe start him on the road instead

Looking at the possible match up vs the Cardinals...they are 15-14 vs LHP this season while the Dodgers are 27-20 vs LHP....

Assuming that we face the Cardinals in the NLDS, I think you go DK game 1, then game 2 you go with Freid to offset on the velocity.....then game 3 on the road, you go with Soroka.

.748 OPS for Cardinals vs lefties and .733 OPS vs righties

Yeah I noted earlier they are slightly better against lefties. It is a pretty small difference and doesnt really change how I would line up our rotation. Still think it should be Fried, Soroka, Keuchel, Teheran in that order.

Keuchel and Fried have both been much better at home than on the road too, so I think this setup is ideal

I think there is still a lot to be played out int he last 3 weeks. If the trends continue I think Folty might end up being the game 1 starter. His potential to produce a dominant outing along with his track record from all of last year would make me feel most comfortable.

Folty has been better since coming back but he hasn't been dominant. He did have one very good start against the Metropolitans.

Hasn't he posted the lowest xWOBA in the last month? I thought the number thrown around on these fine boards was sub 270

I think that's how it will play out. I also think Fried should pitch game 1 with the potential to come back in game 5 of the divisional series.

Brings a smile to my face knowing the board finally realizes just how good Fried is....

I would still go with Soroka game 1. Fried has been good lately but Soroka has been far more consistent. Fried game 2. Keuchel game 3. Then go from there. If we go extra innings in the first 3 maybe we use one of Julio or Folty in those games. We could also piggyback them in a start and give each 1-2 times through the rotation.

Fried game 1 starter for me, but it'll probably be DK. Either way, both pitchers need to pitch at home. Soroka and Folty games 3 and 4 on the road.

going off the numbers train a bit, i trust Soroka’s mentality a lot. if it’s a toss up between he and Fried, i go Soroka.

argument for Fried tho is breaking up the lefties, tho they are very different.

DK, Soroka, Fried is pretty nice regardless.

The argument for Fried is that he has more pitcher wins. Nothing tells the story like a good ole 'pitcher win'.

The argument for Fried is he's been our best starting pitcher in the second half by some margin.

Yeah its not even close. Fried has 7 pitcher wins to Soroka's 3. Shameful output from Soroka in the 2nd half. Even Rick Porcello has managed to get 6 pitcher wins despite one of the worst qualified ERAs in all of baseball.

If anyone is wondering, I'm turning over a new leaf. I've converted. Some Mormons came by my house the other day and convinced me that pitcher wins and RBI are the only statistics that matter and that xwOBA or WAR is of the devil.
