I think everyone agrees that we either want a Bat or the best pitcher in the draft at #3..
I'll be honest, I really don't care what position we draft for; I think 'organizational need' should always be incredibly low when it comes to drafting baseball players.
Just get the player that you believe has the highest chance of being an impact player. It'll sort itself out.
Baseball is 100% about the accumulation of assets, whoever has the most usually wins. If our scouts think a guy like Groome is an A type prospect and Lewis is a B+ type guy, I want Groome.
Drafting for need makes sense in football/basketball (to a degree) - but in baseball with the way you can flip assets and the minor league system, just get the most talented players and let everything else work itself out.

Agree.
Right now, I would draft based on upside. My top 4 would be:
Kyle Lewis
Jason Groome
Riley Pint
Mickey Moniak
I'm just not comfortable with taken an "eh" guy in Senzel or Ray with the 3rd pick.

Puk goes 1, he says their backup plan is Moniak.
He has Cincy taking Senzel, and says they're deciding between Senzel and Perez.
Atlanta takes Lewis at 3. He also says we prefer Pint over Groome, which seemingly everyone else in the industry seems to disagree with.

From what I am reading by Ben Chase over at Tomahawk Take (who claims to have scouting connections), the Braves agree with you. They do not have Senzel or Ray as options for the #3 pick. According to Chase, the only college hitter the Braves have in their top 5 hitters is Lewis, who is supposedly number 1. The other hitters are Moniak, Rutherford and Perez.
Chase also claims there is some chatter about the Braves somehow getting 2 of their top 5 HS bats. No idea how likely something like that would be though.

maybe still working a trade for the another draft pick to over slot two of them at #30 something and #40

Nice scenario. Lewis scares me a bit, but you have to roll the dice sometimes. Even with all the pitching we have, I'm still not sold on the depth at the lower levels, so Pint or Groome wouldn't be a bad choice either. But I think we all agree that we have a paucity of power bats up and down the minors.
According to the guy on tomahawk take their top 5 is Lewis, Moniak, Perez, Rutherford, and someone else. He doesn't know who #5 is.
I meant they are trying to get 2 of the top 5 I listed if Lewis is not available at 3. If Lewis is there he is the pick, period.
If that two of the top five thing is true, I'd think it would have to be Will Benson. Kiley actually had Benson 15 overall in this draft class before he left Fangraphs, and most mocks have him in the late 20s or early 30s. It's not crazy to imagine he falls to 40, especially since we can probably offer significantly over slot there.

Moniak appears to have passed Rutherford in most eyes, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is ahead of him in the Braves' eyes. BA mentions the Braves having interest in Josh Lowe, so he's probably the other high school bat. He is consistently ranked ahead of Benson (and Benson scares the stuffings out of me).

Well, someone else said you can just about pencil in Kieboom at 40 or 44 to the Braves, so it may him and the Braves are confident he'll be there for them, which is why they think they can get 2 of their top 5 bats.
Makes sense that he is probably #5 then. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Braves come out of the draft with Moniak and Kaboom if Lewis is off the board.
I don't like the idea of Rutherford being in HS at age 19 and not absolutely dominating. At that age he is literally a man among boys, and he isn't even leading his team in HRs. No thanks at 3.
