The thing about this draft is that everyone at the top is kind of in a big cluster. There isn't a clear cut #1 guy. Everyone else has their strengths and weaknesses. I think as fans, we tend to put too much emphasis on BA and MLB Pipeline and their draft boards.

I agree. Anderson's write up makes it sound like he could end up throwing 96+ with 3 plus pitches. I'll take that kind of ceiling. Again, I'd love to also add a Corey Ray or someone like that in addition, but I'm ok with him at 3 if it means we can go over slot by quite a bit later.

Putting two and two together. Ian Anderson is probably a $3 million signing at the 3rd pick. Atlanta is probably trying to float Will Benson to 40, and I was suspicious of this when it came out that he has this big bonus demand.

I would be ok with Benson, but I'm not a big fan of his swing. It's one of the strangest swings I've seen from a top hitting prospect, just doesn't get much extension at all.

anything could happen, and any pick taken anywhere in the first round could evolve into the next Trout or Kershaw or the next Matt Bush and Van Poppel. I just hope we get lucky and grab one of the former!

PSA for everyone not familiar with the MLB draft, THE BRAVES DO NOT DRAFT BASED ON MLB.COM RANKINGS. ALMOST NO TEAM DOES! THIS IS NOT THE NFL DRAFT. IF YOU SAY WE DIDNT GET "VALUE" I WILL FIND YOU AND RAPE YOUR DOG.

Someone's puppy is very, very nervous.

That was a good point by O'Dowd. HS pitchers in the top 10 are risky, but the thing is, if you hit on a high school pitcher, you get a Kershaw, Grienke, Bumgarner.

I am certainly no expert, and have not seen his swing much.... but if he can generate power without a lot of extension, would that not make it a short quick swing.... reminiscent of Bob Horner?

Or alternatively, the coaches may see that as a correctable issue that they can work with?

Just a question, not an opinion.

What a silly point. If you hit on a college pitcher in the top 10 you get Strasburg, Price, Verlander. Basically, the name of the game is to hit, period.

Yeah, I mean, MLB scouts obviously know more than I do, so if they're ok with it, that should be enough. It's just weird to me, it looks like the swing of a decent college player.
