This is the worst team in the majors hands down and is showing no signs of snapping out of this funk. We should no doubt have the #1 pick next year.

Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before things can get better. For all the people who complained about first round playoff losses this is what had to be done to fix that. We never had a proper rebuilding. We only had retooling. The crap on the field this year was going to happen eventually because the minors were barren and there were little to no reinforcements on the way. We would have been looking at an Astros level rebuilding where we are crap for many years in a row. I;m not overly optimistic about 2017 but I think in 2018 we are going to be very happy this rebuild took place like it did.

Yep, 2018 was always the realistic goal for competing. We should be pretty interesting to watch about the middle of next year, but we'd have to be pretty lucky to be a .500 team next season as well. Hopefully we hold on to our money outside of spending on a FA catcher like Cervelli this offseason and then spend in the 2018 class and go in strong for that season.

I know this might not be a popular post, but here goes . . .

I am all for sucking as bad as possible this year to ensure we get the number 1 pick and draft Vientos in 2017.

Putting Vientos or a similar talent on top of our IFA signing class and our 2016 draft class is the only realistic way we'd compete for a World Series, which is what I and the FO desires.

This is without trading Teheran and Freeman for more prospects (which I think is possible):

Number 1 pick in 2017 (possibly Vientos)
Number 3 pick in 2016 (hopefully Kyle Lewis)
Number 40/44 pick in 2016 (hopefully a big-time high school bat)
Kevin Maitan
Abraham Gutierrez
Yunior Severino
Cristian Pache
Derian Cruz
Ozzie Albies
Dansby Swanson
Rio Ruiz
Austin Riley
Ronald Acuna

PLUS all the pitching we've assembled.

That's how you win a World Series.

In 2021.

Fwiw I agree. If payroll isn't going up to account for scouting errors and blunders in FA then this was basically a given. This team right now is bad, and it doesn't have a ton of players to see mlb as promotions that project as much but average regulars. We will need some big bats, and outfielders to get anywhere meaningful.

This roster is a dearth of position talent and offense. I like Castro as a backup SS very much, but other than he freeman and Inciarte we are atrocious .

I think you'll see us go back to pitching at the top of drafts after this one. We're going to load up on really young bats in the international signing period, so I think we'll target pitching in the draft.
