One guy I think is a perfect fit for us is Christin Stewart in the Tigers system. I believe he was a supplemental first rounder in last year or the year before, just hit his 7th homer to tie for the minor league lead. He's in High A now, left fielder who can really hit.

He's not an elite prospect as of now, but I think he can flat out hit and would help our system that isn't deep with corner outfielders who could help soon.

Not even if it lands Benintendi, but that's just me.

Taking Sandoval's contract back completely hamstrings you salary-wise, keeping you from signing or trading someone who actually might be helpful like Braun or Cespedes.

If you don't sign 9 and 10, you lose that slot money.

To me it should all be about value.

I don't mind trading future for present or the other way around. As long as we get better expected value in return.

In a similar vein, I think it is a very bad idea to have any consideration besides getting the best player when making those early draft picks.

Wasn't thinking about that, but you're right. Really makes no difference in the overall strategy though - you could take players in rounds 4 & 5 that would sign for lower bonuses and use that money for rounds 9 & 10. The main point is that it actually is possible to go over slot for the #40 & #43 picks IF they wanted to. Again, I haven't a clue whether they'd try to do something like that, but it is an option.

Don't worry about college/HS, or positions............ 'who's the best player at #3? That's all that should matter.

The only way I'd take that contract was if they sent Benintendi and one of Moncada, Devers, or Anderson Espinoza - but that's just me.

He's just that useless to an NL team IMO. You're $20 million in the hole for an occasional pinch-hitter for the next 4 years.

how about Benintendi and Pablo for HO..

Pablo is owed only 60 million after this year.. HO is owed a bit over 30 million but all the way out to 2021

**edit.. HO is owed 28.5 million after this year and done in 2020..Pablo could be bought out for 5 after 2019.. so the Braves could save a little money that final year..

Olivera's "cap hit" doesn't keep you from spending on or trading for a player who can actually help you. Sandoval's "cap hit" does. You can't pay Sandoval $20 million to sit on the bench and trade for an impact bat or sign one via free-agency.

The Red Sox aren't the type of team that trades prospects to help unload money, Especially their elite prospects.

Hector Olivera is untradeable until this domestic assault charge clears up.

Bringing in prospects is a method geared to improving the MLB team, just not in an immediate fashion. The difference is that you can bring in a Casey Kotchman type OR you can bring in a prospect who might, MIGHT turn into Jeff Bagwell.

They unloaded a ton of talent to save money to the dodgers.

Sandoval is out there. You'd owe him 18 million for the next 3 years plus a 5 million buy out. Maybe they send some money. Maybe they take on Aybar and Norris for this year. Maybe maybe.

The question would be do you think Sandoval has anything left. And if the sox offer player X, would you sign player X for the money you are spending on Sandoval?

Thank you, I understand the value of prospects. My point was the Braves have just spent 2 years unloading MLB talent to acquire prospects, and now it's time for that to be reversed.

There are no more valuable players on the roster nearing the end of team control, but when there are I would be in favor of flipping them for prospects if the return is greater than the draft pick compensation their FA departure would provide.
