The scouting reports suggest he can be an above-average LF, but that's about it. His defense will not be a huge asset no matter where he's playing.

Ray isn't a big power guy and he's lh. Not ideal. But I think he's got a good shot to give us what heyward gave us in rf, maybe better obp.

From what I've read, Pint definitely has the secondary stuff...potentially plus changeup and curve.

I'm personally not a Pint fan and I don't want to draft him at #3 bc I'd prefer Lewis, Groome, and Rutherford in that order before Pint, but saying he doesn't have secondary pitches is REALLY wrong. I'm a bit afraid with his high velocity too and a lot of people call him the second coming of Kolek, but I don't agree. Kolek at the time of the draft only threw fastballs with high velocity with no virtually no other pitch. Pint, on the other hand, has alongside the plus plus fastball, a plus curveball (60 grade), plus changeup (60 grade), and an average slider (50 grade) that has the chances to become above average. I will agree that he does have below average command, but one he can fix. There is a lot of risk with Pint, but that's with every single HS pitcher in a draft.

In the end, I'm not SUPER HAPPY about drafting Pint at #3, but I won't HATE it b/c he does have ace potential... there are just more safer prospects to choose from.

What I read is he flashes two breaking balls but that is it.

He throws none of them for strikes and only flashes other stuff. Now he famously has been limited in his time on the mound but still

Groome has a breaking pitch most are saying is 70. Give me that.

The descriptions I've seen are along the lines of 'potentially plus' changeup and 'devastating if consistent' curveball. He's not just a flame-thrower. There is a bunch of risk due to command, but he absolutely has other pitches.
 
I'd be perfectly happy with Pint. He has the potential to be that guy in this class that makes teams look like idiots for passing on. I still have him behind Lewis, Groome and Puk on my list, but I'm not going to pretend to know what's best. If the FO thinks he's worth the 3rd pick I'll happily accept it.

I'd agree with that.

Fo knows more than I do. My opinion is mine for discussion boards.
 
Lewis and Puk are unanimous 1-2 choices I believe, but I'm not upset with Groome or Pint. I would be pissed if we went with Ray. I'm happy with Senzel as well.
 
I still say we should take a bat first and I'm still with nsacpi on Delvin Perez as I agree that he seems to have superstar potential. Plus I like Lewis a lot, I just don't think he'll fall to us. I hope we don't go Groome or Pint.
 
I've seen a lot of Correa comps for Perez, but from what I've read, Correa was far ahead offensively at this point of where Perez is now.

I just don't think a HS bat is the way to go, both because we don't need it and because there doesn't seem to be a HS bat anyone considers truly worthy of a top pick in this draft.

I'm curious as to why you're so against the HS arm but are ok with the HS bat.
 
Puk strikes out 11 in six innings against Vandy- only two walks. One run on a homer. He's not doing anything these last five or six weeks to dissuade Philadelphia.

I'd prefer Lewis if available, I just don't see him falling. I like the video and scouting reports I've seen on Perez. But I am more against drafting HS pitching with our first pick in general. I really want to draft a good bat and prefer a college bat and specifically Lewis. I only make an exception with Perez because of the position he plays and the potential I see with him.

Fair enough. I prefer a college bat, too, but unfortunately, outside of Lewis there's just not a college bat that I think is worthy of a top-3 pick. Just not a great year to take a college bat if it's not Lewis. I wouldn't hate Senzel, but I wouldn't love it, either.

I am not sold on Senzel either and my ranking on bats have Lewis and Perez at the top, which also partly explains my exception on him. If we don't take a college bat I'd want a college arm rather than a HS arm. But I am still hoping we draft a college bat instead. Zack Collins is a college bat catcher that has caught my eye. But I am not saying I'd want to take him with our first pick. Just another on my own personal radar.

The problem is, after Puk there are no college pitchers that warrant it, either. So at that point, if you're not a huge fan of Senzel you pretty much have to go HS either way. I get that you love Perez, but surely you wouldn't hate a HS pitcher at that point. Those options would be much better than the college arms left.

And I've read that it's unlikely Collins will stick at catcher.

If Lewis and Puk go first and second, that still leaves Perez and if going HS anyway I'm going with a bat since he's among my top three. Also, I understand that about Collins but some think his bat will be so good that he's worth it either way. I am not saying I agree, I am more considering him at this point and not sure yet where I'd rank him. Now if both Lewis and Perez go in the first two picks, I would consider Puk at three if I couldn't decide on another college bat. To sum it up, outside of Perez I'd probably draft a college player whether bat or pitcher given where we are picking in the draft.

But you've basically limited it to only 3 players you'd be ok with. While we would obviously have the opportunity to draft at least 1, it seems a little unreasonable to me to be ok with likely only 1 possible player once our pick comes up. After Lewis, Perez, and Puk, the only player you seem to be ok with is...Zack Collins?
