State of the braves

To compete this season, they need a LF, 2 backend relievers, and 2 starters. This just isn't realistic. It's time to blow this group up. Sale, ozuna, and Murphy should be on the block right now.

AA and snit have drove this Ferrari they inherited over the cliff.

Meh. If this is the end of the run it's better than most have. Multiple high end winning seasons with a ring.

I wouldn't trade Sale.. Ozuna.. maybe.. Riggy, yes for anything. Prince albert/Lee/Bummer... any of these for sure. I would shop Murphy too, but he might be a hard sell.

I think you can do a soft reboot with the money coming off the books and tax reset.. blow it out on anyone and everyone before the next CBA.. AA will have to do that to save his job, but he can't be afraid to spend.

I'm just not a fan of a primary DH in today's era of baseball. They limit the entire team when the DH role should be shared amongst the majority of the starting 8 position players to get them needed rest throughout a long season.

It also isn't good that the Ozuna hip news got out since he'd probably be the best trade chip out there if the Braves decide to sell.

He's still hitting the ball great

That would require a better manager and non auto outs like Allen

We knew going into the off-season that we needed help at SS, another arm in the rotation, and a lot of bullpen help. None were addressed and they are dragging this team down.

It sucks guys, but this is what happens. I know the Cox/Scheurholz Braves made it look easy, but contention windows don’t last forever. They end and sometimes they end abruptly and often times they end ugly. We all knew this day was coming, and I’m sure like me many of you knew it could end even when we didn’t expect it, because that’s professional sports.

On the bright side, they have great pieces they can build around and get good again quickly if they decide to reboot. Acuña, Baldwin, SSx2.

Agree. Let Ozuna walk and cycle through guys at DH starting next year. I know Olson is damned determined to play first base every day, but it shouldn't be up to him. Have him DH periodically. Have Acuna DH one-half to three-quarters of the time. Have Baldwin and Murphy (unless he's traded) take some hacks at DH. If they do that, they can probably get a decent bench guy who will actually see the field for 300 ABs instead of growing moss on his uniform.

I still think the long-term extensions to a lot of guys all at the same time was a questionable strategy and even though those guys are what I would term below market, they still carry big numbers. No team has an all-star at every position, but bumping up against the luxury tax combined with a few injuries have had the Braves flirting with low-WAR guys at too many positions.
