Statheads vs. Scoutheads (Version 99.2)

Not advocating for either side...just thought the comment just made on XM was too funny not to mention...

Jose Quintana had the same WAR in 2013 as FELIX HERNANDEZ.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm.

Not according to fWAR. WAR is a budding stat. Because you have the 2 different versions both with thier strengths and weaknesses that's flaw number one, second is the exact finding of value. That said still the best way to look at a player's contribution to their team that there is. It speaks nothing of the future it only speaks of production in a one year vacuum.

Well, looking at their stats, both pitched around 200 innings with an ERA+ of about 122. So stat-wise, it makes total sense for them to be the same. Felix gave up 3 less hits, and 10 less walks over 4 more innings pitched.

So was he better? Yeah, he was. But not by a tremendous margin.

Conclusion: Felix didn't have his best year, and a 2nd year player had a pretty good year (let's not forget that the White Sox sucked this year, which would explain his only having 9 wins)

I don't want to read this yet, because I'm only on the revised edition of 98.4, so I've got about 10 more to go.

As mentioned, fangraphs shows a larger gap between the two.

Qunitana 3.7
Henandez 6.0

Baseball Reference actually had Quintana beating out Hernandez by .2. That is laughable.
