Stephen Drew to 2B?

can hart sign anyone who doesn't live in GA?

So far his preference seems to be more Texas (though that is via trade mostly). Miller and Jenkins are both from Texas. Plus Chad MacDonald who was hired to serve as a special assistant to the general manager is also from Texas. Further, I heard that the Braves asked the Giants for a package including Kyle Crick (also from Texas) when they called interested in Justin Upton.

While I understand the principle behind the signing of Drew -excellent defense, bounce back candidate, trade asset at the deadline for prospects- I think another name makes more sense...

Jed Lowrie

Like Drew, Jed Lowrie offers defensive versatility and has seen extensive time at three infield positions: 2B/SS/3B. He is someone who you could sign for 3-4 years and his versatility alone would be worth it. Offensively he is a average -albeit steady- switch-hitter with a decent amount of pop for a middle infielder, who gets on base at a decent clip, doesn't strike out a ton and has similar career splits -he has more power hitting from the left side and a higher average from the right-. Defensively, he is an average SS, above-average 2B, and above-average 3B.

How could he be used?

For starters, in 2015 he would be our everyday 2B -or until Peraza is ready while giving Jose time to develop at AAA-, while providing us someone to give Andrelton Simmons a day off here and there, and occasionally spelling CJ against tough righties. He would also be great to have in case Simmons or CJ -knock on wood- were to miss significant time with injury or if CJ is traded/doesn't perform. He is someone that doesn't strike very often (like too many of our current roster) and can hit anywhere in the lineup. Going forward he is someone that could be a utility guy, or even become our everyday 3B. With us not having a very good (star type player) 3B prospect besides Kyle Kubitza, I could very well see him becoming that everyday 3B. As an everyday 3B he would provide us with good defense at the hot corner and enabling us to have a very solid defensive left side, as well as inserting a switch hitter into a lineup that lacks left-handed bats.

Just another name that I would like to see the front office take a look at. His versatility and switch hitting capabilities would be a nice asset to have.

I've had the same thought, but I've read Lowrie is looking for at least 3 years at $10 MM per, which I think is a pretty big overpay. I like Lowrie as a player, but I think he is somewhat overrated. He certainly isn't a full-time shortstop, but he can play it well enough that the team wouldn't have to carry another back-up for the position. That would allow the team to concentrate on another offensive-centric player for the bench. The presence of Lowrie could also push Chris Johnson off the team.

Lawrie before last year was for sure worth 3/30. Last year he was not so good and he's now on the wrong side of 30. I would max out my offer for him at half that 3/15 as he could be a starter for us, or he could be a bench player.

I don't want either of them unless they can be had on the cheap. Let Pastor start the season there then when he again proves he can't handle the position we'll bring up Peraza and let him grow into the position.

Truthfully, I'd rather just find out once and for all what sort of player Pastornicky is. Stick him at second, give him a few hundred consistent at-bats and come to a fully informed evaluation as to his worth. Or hell, go with Gosselin if that's the preference. I don't dislike the Drews, and Stephen wouldn't be an awful signing (depending on contract terms, of course), but if there's one thing 2015 will have going for us it should be an opportunity to give lots of young guys at-bats.

If the team didn't give Stella! a chance, they aren't going to give Pastornicky one.
