SUNDAY MINORS FINAL 5/14 ... 3 superlative starts

I think Jackson will get respect quick. He is not far removed from being called the best prep bat in a few years and he's hitting with a tremendous amount of power at an age appropriate level. If he does this for a whole season he's not just top 100...he'll be top 50.

No he won't. Nobody considers him a viable catcher yet. His peripherals are red flags, and you have to mash as a 1B or COF with little defensive value. The only way he will ever be a top 100 prospect is if he could somehow catch. He's not Kyle Schwarber with the bat, not even close.

Exactly. I think most of us realize this. We should all be encouraged by his start, but there's just zero chance he's a top 100 prospect at midseason and probably not postseason.

Riley has a better chance than Jackson of cracking a Top 100 list at mid-season. Neither is likely.

Acuna has gone completely bonkers at the plate. Four for five today with a double, no strikeouts. His 1.445 OPS in AA before today will actually go up, to 1.513 by my calculation lol.

I believe his OPS for 2017, from Advanced A plus AA combined, will go up to .939 after today's game. Pretty astounding for a guy who is 7 months away from turning 20 and is in AA already.

I would take Acuna over Robles, I can tell you that much. This surge Acuna is on, which has been going on for about a month now, reminds me of the absurd performances Andruw Jones had throughout his minor league career. Acuna seems to just hit everything right now.

I think Sims has a chance to make some of the mid-season Top 100 lists. He looks to be the most major league ready of our current group of AAA starters.

His pattern has sort of been to master a level and then struggle at first with the promotion. I don't really know if he make the next leap, but there were a couple of people asserting he was basically a non-prospect and I wouldn't go that far.

He's always had good K rate and he's always been hard to hit. If his walks are permanently down seems like he would have a chance to be all right. But my guess is he will have to adjust again before succeeding.

It would be a huge boon to our system if Sims has truly turned it around and becomes a viable #2 or #3 starter in the majors after having been relegated to almost non-prospect status this winter.

The elite strikeout numbers suggested he's had a chance all along. It is a lot more likely for a pitching prospect to dramatically improve his walk rate than to improve the strikeout rate.

There is more reason to be excited about the progress of Sims and Demerritte than Jackson. That's not to say Jackson's play isn't encouraging. But he's age appropriate for his level and if he can't catch he's just a guy. The other two guys are elevating themselves to top 100 status.

Don't look now but Rio Ruiz numbers too a turn towards respectability lately. Hopefully he'll get a chance in ATL this year.

Ironic or not, you just described Hank Aaron as a young hitter.

Its scary Rico. I'm a posi-Brave but what Acuna is doing is on a level we haven't been able to enjoy in a long time. I even said last year he stuck out more than any prospect I've seen on the farm in a few years.

Since Druw or longer? Hell of a signing for 100K.

uncovering someone like Acuna doesn't happen often

Not saying there is another Acuna in the bunch, just saying that we hear about the few top names, but likely there is another really good player in the group that did not receive much attention.

For the money....ha. Since ever..

Really though, I've been high on more flops than I care to count because I listened to others before I got to watch the kids. When I saw him in Orlando and then in Rome I couldn't stop wondering about the guy. Everything he did was...just better. He's in my top two over the last five years for sure. Ozzie was/is a different prospect. ...I still love the way he barrels a ball when he's hitting well. Acuna is...very good.

I can't speak for other here and I will trust the evaluators, but I'd rather watch Sims give up a 900-foot home run in his first big league start than ever see Colon start another game in a Braves' uniform.
