I was told he wasn’t going to fit anywhere

The hit tool is legit. That's never been a question.

The hit tool and the ability to play multiple positions could get him to Atlanta quick. Whether the ceiling will justify his draft position is something we'll see.

I didn't like the Shewmake pick, but maybe our front office saw a really good hit tool (and versatility) that may translate into some power once he starts hitting the juiced baseballs.

I hope I'm wrong in my initial assessment of his ceiling.

Yeah, Shewmake and Langeliers are pretty the opposite of each other in terms of prospect concerns. Shewmake has the good hit tool but power questions that lead to position questions. Langeliers has good power for his position but the question is whether his hit tool will carry. Hopefully the concerns for both players wind up being misplaced.

At age 20, Ryan Waters has been the player of the year in the Southern League. Consider:

Waters leads the league in hitting (.332), 17 points ahead of anyone
Leads the league in doubles (25), seven ahead of everyone and triples (8) two ahead and total XBH (37, five more than Pache)
His 96 hits are 16 more than anyone
His 44 runs scored are four more than anyone

FYI: Davidson leads SL in ERA (1.61), Anderson leads in strikeouts (99)

If the hit tool is there then we should be good to go. I don't think anyone has any doubts about Shewmake's leather.

Rough start for GCL pitching.

But a nice first day for Harris, and Grissom and Paolini both took some bases-on-balls. (Harris was in CF, Paolini in RF; Morton did not play.)

Im as thrilled as anyone but they should be hitting a ball.

Lets hope it continues when they are in AA next year.

:Bowman: If Bridges had run this draft, you’d be pimping the hell out of these early returns.
