MOVE: Braves have activated outfielder Taylor Murphy and assigned him to Florida. He was signed to a minor league deal April 30. He was earlier released by Cleveland off its Akron roster, where he hit .222 in 3 games. Last year, playing part-time, he hit .225. But in 2014, he was an all-star in the short-season NYP League.

Ian Anderson pitching a beauty today. Two hits through five. Up 1-0.

From twitter.

#Braves 3B prospect Austin Riley is not in the lineup for Mississippi today. I'm not sure he'll be back in their lineup again.

I'm one of the biggest Riley skeptics around, but I'm starting to become a believer. Even if he does have that long swing, it hasn't slowed him down yet. He is definitely going to be MLB bound sooner rather than later. It wouldn't surprise me to see us give up on the Bautista experiment by June and us call Riley up. I think its more likely that we wait until September, but you never know. I just hope that the long swing doesn't get exposed once he starts facing MLB velocity and sequencing.

Me too. 30 strikeouts and 12 walks in 25 innings pitched on the year.

Yeah and Anderson is a cold weather guy. It shouldn't be surprising that his development is taking a little longer than most dudes, just like Newcomb's did. That is what makes Soroka such an intriguing guy. He was a cold weather pitcher who really defied the odds to become what he is.

One of the top ceilings in all of baseball.

Amirite??

I wouldn’t go that far, but the likelihood of hitting his ceiling elevates if he’s suddenly consistently sitting near the 1.30 bb/9 he posted today.

If I know one thing it’s that a single game is a good sample to judge BB rate.

Seriously though, Anderson’s control issues seemingly sprung up out of nowhere. I don’t remember anyone worrying about his control when he was drafted or early in his pro career.
