Suntrust Park Begins To Take Shape

Judging from the map that the Braves released at the time they announced the move, more people will gain the ability to make it to weeknight games than the other way around. It sucks for those of you living inside 285, but would have to be better for most in the northern suburbs. I admit that my knowledge of Atlanta traffic is limited to a dozen or so visits and what my wife told me it was like we she lived there for 17 years.

It will be brutal for people coming from south Georgia.

The Atlanta Braves plan to announce Tuesday a major deal with Comcast in connection with the team’s new stadium and mixed-use development in Cobb County, multiple sources have told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The deal, they said, will include a partnership between the Braves and Comcast on technology in the new stadium and adjacent development. The deal also will include office space for Comcast in the development.

"This is a truly unprecedented project and I can’t think of a better partner than the Braves, led by the visionary Terry McGuirk, as we bring record Internet speeds to fans, residents and businesses," said Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brian L. Roberts.

... partnership that will deliver multi-terabit network capabilities to SunTrust Park and the surrounding community, making it the most technologically advanced mixed-use development in the U.S ...

...

Comcast will provide video, voice and high-speed Internet connectivity throughout the 60-acre project, which includes the new ballpark, retail shops, restaurants, an office tower, hotel, an entertainment venue and residential units. The development’s all-fiber network will be capable of delivering multi-gigabit speeds throughout the complex on game days and every day in between. Comcast will also become the Braves’ signature tenant in a multi-story office building within the development.

In all seriousness, it's definitely a good thing to have an anchor tenant for the on-site office complex. I know that the area surrounding the park is as much of a concern to the brass as the park itself- that's pretty much why we're leaving Turner.

Still won't stop me from telling stupid Comcast jokes.

Hope we never have to cancel the sponsorship deal. McGuirk will be on the phone for hours.

And will wind up with MORE movie channels, two extra receivers, and a longer agreement than he had in the first place.

Oh, wait - that's what happens every time I call DirecTV!!!
