Suspensions Loom?

Eh so what. I doubt A-Rod could give a ****.

He's been cheating for years so obviously he doesn't care about the integrity of the game.

He's sleeping with Torrie Wilson every night, and he's accrued over half a billion from baseball earnings not even including his endorsements.

They can't take the money he's already earned away, though the Yankees may try to get the rest of his contract amnestied or waived somehow.

He's set for life, and he's banging Torrie Wilson every night.

From what ive heard on the radio...it seems that the case is so overwhelming that they coukd potentially ban him from baseball. Nothibg has been corroborated but thats the rumor.

Yeah.... but no. The CBA lays out penalties for these things; A-Rod for all the scandal has never been suspended. First offense is 50 games, not a lifetime ban, regardless of how "overwhelming" the evidence is. Unless they have evidence of something way worse than PED usage, like betting on games, or selling PEDs to other players, or betting on games in which he is selling PEDs to orphaned puppies, I fail to see how MLB could possibly go any higher than 50 games, much less enforce a lifetime ban. And if they had overwhelming evidence of something like that, why wouldn't they just go ahead and suspend him?

Who knows what they (mlb) has. Seems like they have a cornucopia of damning evidence. Arod is a joke. Guy should never sniff a HOF ballot.

The Daily News? You might as well be relying on the Onion.

“I can see a scenario where if they’ve got multiple offenses (against A-Rod) that rather than going for his career with an arbitrator, baseball might settle on something like 150 games,” said one of the sources.

This is the only quote substantiating the 150 game idea. It is plainly someone (a) not with MLB, (b) not with A-Rod, and (c) who is imagining a "scenario" where something "might" happen "if" something unknown were to be true. This isn't news; it is tabloid masturbation.

If MLB suspends him, the CBA says the first suspension for PED usage will be for 50 games. That's the baseline the sides will be arguing from; MLB may very well try and argue that A-Rod has multiple offenses (second offense is 100 games), and thus he should get multiple suspensions. But I find it highly unlikely that an arbiter would agree with them on that, and the MLBPA would certainly throw a ****fit. That's not going to be a "settling point;" that's would be an enormous concession from A-Rod for basically no reason.

Again, even if the evidence that he used were 100% obvious and damning (which it isn't; their witness is certainly impeachable on a few counts), that would still only be 50 games. The strength of the evidence is irrelevant. They can only exceed the CBA-stated penalties if he did something more heinous that just using PEDs.

Bill Madden is as experienced as it gets and he would not have put his name to this piece without a reliable source. Im just saying its out there. Not saying its going to happen. Just sharing some news.

I for one dont want ARod suspended. I want the yankees on the hook for every penny of that contract. I dont want them to sneak their way out of their own incompetence.

Madden is a fairly terrible sportswriter. The framing of this story based on the 100% speculative "source" quote above is ample enough evidence of this, even ignoring his years of terrible columns and his guilt-by-association employment by the poop rag that is the Daily News.

The quality of his writing shoukd not be held against his integrity as a representative of sports media. Bill Madden is respected in the NY sports community.

Didn't the Daily News write that the Boston bombings were done by aliens?

You can't prove that aliens weren't involved. If they could be at the first Thanksgiving, eating maize with the pilgrims and the natives, they could be anywhere doing anything.

I think his history of being terrible at journalism should, in fact, impact how I regard his journalism.

Bill Madden is respected in the NY sports community.

Mmm... the NY "sports media" is populated mostly by gasbags, so this seems like pretty faint praise. Also, I refuse to believe that right thinking people take the sports coverage in the Daily News seriously:
