My whole thing on the MLB Draft is this: It’s an entirely different animal than the NFL or NBA draft. In those leagues, a top pick is expected to contribute to their new team immediately. Not the case in MLB. If it’s a high school player, we probably wouldn’t see him in the bigs for three years. If he’s a college player maybe a year and a half. The development in that time is going to be the key.
Also, the top pick is never a guarantee. For a Chipper Jones, there’s also a Brien Taylor. So for me, I’m not going to sweat being in the ninth slot. Chances are, there will be plenty of real good options for the Braves.
