Its amazing that people are downplaying this as a PR stunt. Real people have been impacted positively by this news. Lots of happy people at the dinner table for Christmas.

PR is fun
Fun for those getting the bonus. Get to buy their family more gifts for the holidays or pay some bills. Sad that you diminish the impact to everyday working families.

If I had a $1000 surprise bonus then bring on the PR... Might even be able to go on a goldie overseas trip with that.
Goldie is an example of a rich person telling the rest of the us that capitalism is bad.

But those companies are making billions in profit already and could have easily done this if they wanted to throw these scraps to their employees
I'd be impressed with substantial pay raises for everyone not named upper management etc
$1k spread over a 365 day calendar is less than $2.75 a day. Lol

For starters that amount means a lot to people and the timing of that allows the family to enjoy Christmas even more. That has tangible value.
Further, a few of these companies announced increased that will be prevailing.
Finally, tax reform and deregulation has been baked into the 2017 fiscal year. That is why unemployment is at record lows. Wages are up. Earnings are up. Jobs growth is strong. Its all there but some just don't want to see it.
