Technology Nerd Thread

BTW I'm not one who makes a big deal from "bendgate" (why does everything have to end in gate? Can't people be more creative? Like Bendghazi? Or do we still use an event that happened like 40 years ago as the naming standard for controversies), as I see it big phones have a massive issue with bending naturally, especially the thinner they are (like the HTC) but the Apple reaction to it has proven to backfire massively. First it was the video was a fake, then they released the uncut version, now there are teenagers going around to Apple stores and bending iPhones in store. Apple has a full blown fiasco because they didn't handle it properly. I'm not sure what the right way to handle it is. But to say it only happened to a few people is not the way to go. Worse than the antenna issue with the iPhone 4 handling.

LOL Ok so you can say they handled it wrong, but don't know how the right way to handle it was?

The one pair of idiots who filmed their faces and put on youtube bending the phone, doesn't indicate a fiasco. This is just more of the media blowing things up because there is nothing else to bitch about. I guess I don't understand what people will think happens if they sit on something that is over 6" long and insanely thin, their their entire body weight.....

I'm not a PR person so I can't say what the right way is. I know it was handled poorly by what the reaction on the internet is.

The fiasco is that this is escalating. I don't think this will stop here. This will scare off some potential buyers as well. Phone with still crush sales records but it will miss on its projection is my guess

It won't hamper sales. Antenna gate was a worse problem for apple.

The Note4 has a gap in its screen. That's pretty bad.

Yes it is bad. I have'nt used it but the fact that they admitted it is a design issue and it could get worse over time just screams failure. There's a reason I don't like Sammys. I like Motorola and LG as they build the most quality devices.

Debating on getting the moto 360 just because I have 95 bucks in best buy certs expiring soon that I need to get rid of...

I don't see any other smart watches available that I'd like. My brother likes my gear fit so much I'm thinking about just giving it to him and picking up the 360.

I like that I only have to charge my watch every 3 days with my gear fit. Thoughts zito?

Zeets is it possible to turn off the Bluetooth function of the watch to save battery? I don't care for text notifications and such that much.

I want to still be able to look at the time and use the stopwatch, timer etc if possible.

I also like sleeping with the watch on as an alarm I can do that with the gear fit. I don't like charging it often and battery life is the biggest issue I've heard about the watch.

You can put it into airplane mode, yes. I have no issue with battery life. I wear it all day and charge it at night. I wouldn't wear it to bed anyway so it's hardly a deal breaker. As long as you leave the ambient mode off you'll be fine with battery life. I put mine on at about 9 am today and am still at 65% and I check it regularly and get notifications on it.

Well I sleep with the galaxy gear fit and it's alarm is synched with my phone's alarm and it vibrates o.

I'm a heavy sleeper so the vibration is very helpful.

Can you set alarms independent of the phone? Like can I set alarms just from the watch itself or does it have to be my phone's alarms that it's responding to like my gear fit? t

It confused me at first cause I set an alarm on my phone using the OK Google command (won't work without sync btw) and thought it was setting both but set my watch off instead.

Well damn.

Went to Best Buy to purchase the watch, and they had nothing but grey leather. I went to the internet kiosk to order from their online inventory and they sold out of that too.'

Guess I'll wait for Monday to see if they get a new shipment. The grey leather looks meh, and I'm surprised they don't offer replacement bands.

They'll offer replacement bands soon enough.

im still not entirely sold on smartwatches. The Iwatch will use Siri to,connect to Homekit so I can see some validity in using your watch to turn off/on your lights, AC, TV, and anything else connected but $350 is still pricey.

The watch band swapping was not something they intended but can be done. They recommend doing it at a jeweler because it requires special tools. Even at that personally I wouldn't want the silver 360 with the black band

That being said just went to bestbuy.com and they have the moto360 in black you cna order and it's got no apparent delay.

Got my Moto360 at Best Buy today.

Was excited to see Vimo was a fitness app, but then saw I couldn't input my own numbers and that it was auto-customization... meh.
