Technology Nerd Thread

I got one for free from work to demo, and its not that great. Give me a Macbook Air any day over it!

Macbook air really isn't comparable. But if you prefer Mac OS you'll pick the Air over the surface pro. Or if you like the laptop form for work an ultrabook or convertible are more Macbook Air battlers. Surface Pro 2 is kind of in it's own category with the other full windows tablets. Built for people who want the use of a laptop in the form of a tablet.

Leaked iPhone 6 pic (supposedly):

Time Warner sale has to clear the FCC, I don't think they'll let it. Number 1 cable provider buying out the number 2? I know the cable market is shrinking but these are still billion dollar companies that would have an effective monopoly with a control of about 1/3 of the cable TV customers.

ALso it looks like Verizon has officially been drug into the price wars started by T-Mobile. Good news. New plans for Verizon. New plans start at 45 bucks for unlimited talk and text with a basic phone. Verizon finally introduced an incentive to sign up for it's Edge plan giving 10 or 20 off a month with Edge. Still wouldn't do it myself unless I was on the 10 GB plan and buying a phone under 480 bucks retail like the Moto X. Phones like the GS4 or iPhone still aren't really worth it most likely.

Taco Bell is about to go with a mobile app with McDonalds and chick fil a not to far behind them.
Amen.

What's their app supposed to do? Order and Payment? If so I'm shocked they don't have one already since Five Guys does.

I'm on Edge with an unlimited data plan. I guess I won't get a discount?

Google Fiber is looking into a massive expansion, great news for the consumer

for those who don't know what Google Fiber is, it's either free 5 MBPS internet, 70 dollar gigabit internet, or 120 dollar gigabit internet plus TV. Bonuses include with just the internet 1 TB of google cloud service, with no contract. With the TV there is a 2 year deal with "built in flexibility" it includes DVR, a Nexus 7, and the 1 TB cloud.

My desire to move to Portland is growing.

WTF? That can't be good for whatsapp users.

And the money of course is ridiculous but Facebook is trying to become like Google/Microsoft.

So true. Facebook ruined Instagram, too, just like Microsoft brutalized Skype.

Don't really understand the appeal of WhatsApp. Unlimited texting plans are super cheap nowadays. Or just use Google Voice.

International use is the big appeal. Though it seems like carriers are making it easier to text international (think both T-Mo and Verizon have plans with unlimited international text) Aside from that, I have no clue. I guess the positive is that you can message someone and they can't have your phone number as well? Though now with facebook that probably won't be the case.

Additional inside details on the Facebook-WhatsApp deal were revealed on Thursday by The Information, which cited three unnamed sources involved with the deal. Those people reportedly said that Google was willing to top Facebook's $19 billion deal, as the search giant was apparently extremely eager to bring WhatsApp under its own umbrella.

Page also made a last-minute effort to WhatsApp Chief Executive Jan Koum, offering him the ability to keep his company independent and continue competing with Facebook while using Google's deep pockets.

They should had gone with google
