The Biden Presidency

Trump’s significantly improved performance seemed to surprise everyone except his campaign, which knew long ago it was doing materially better with Cuban Americans in Miami, as well as Latino voters from other areas of Latin America. Those numbers became even more pronounced when Black Lives Matter protests broke out in Miami, drawing some leftists who waved flags with the likeness of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara and spray-painted red hammer-and-sickle images onto walls and statues.

“The socialism? You can’t be playing around with that word,” Salazar said in an interview, following her win Tuesday night. “It’s too acidic. It’s too dangerous.”

yeah but they're not real Cubans

yeah, it's why the gop kept hammering the term socialist over and over again

it doesn't matter that biden is practically a republican

I'm not sure why Mcconnell would play hardball on Biden's cabinet. It would have no purpose and Mcconnell doesn't do things with no purpose. He's refused to confirm judges in the past but that had an end game, one he achieved.

Because Republicans are in charge. They are on charge when they have the majority. They are in charge when theres split control. And they are in charge when they have no power. That's the way they see it. If they didnt have the Senate they would resort to temper tantrums and pity parties to stop nominations. Kind of like what they did in the house when Trump was impeached.

Mcconnell is calculating. Trump throws temper tantrums but Mcconnell always has a goal. He doesn't obstruct for no reason and denying Biden his cabinet picks would only hurt Republicans with no gain.

I think McConnel would take "we blocked the radical left extremists from being confirmed" into mid terms in a heartbeat. Its what Republican voters want. Where I am they ran ads during Obama years during republican primaries arguing that they would obstruct Obama more than their opponent.

It would be pointless. Biden would still have people in those positions. It would also enrage the left to the point that you'd lose any marginal advantage you'd gain in your own party.

Yeah, there's no political upside for McConnell to block Biden's cabinet.

If he did, the GOP would get punished in the mid-terms. McConnell is smarter than this. Let Biden get his cabinet, after all he did just win the election, so the people need to at least think he has a chance to do his job, then McConnell can go back to blocking everything and blaming the White House just like he did for Obama when he was Minority then Majority Leader.

Where McConnell could get in trouble is, blocking a second stimulus bill. Even with a smaller majority in the House, Pelosi is going to ram bills to McConnell, and Biden will have the Presidency to be able to pressure McConnell to get something passed.

And he and Biden are friends. Can't see a lot of resistance on the cabinet and I won't be surprised if Biden tracks a bit more centrist on several picks anyway.
