Would the Taliban or some other authoritarian regime stepped in no matter when we withdrew? Possibly. But that's not the only issue here.

Our government somehow thought they had months to spare to withdraw. Biden himself talked publicly about it. Now we're sitting here watching American diplomats being evacuated by helicopter, we're watching the airport being overrun with desperate people, we're seeing people clinging to American planes as they take off to the point where people were falling to their deaths.

Maybe installing democracy in Afghanistan was hopeless. But having an orderly, safe withdrawal where we get everyone out who needs to be gotten out was entirely possible. The fact that it didn't happen is 100% on Biden.
 
there was never going to be anything like an orderly withdrawal.

When he first announced a by September withdrawal anyone with any historical knowledge of that region knew.

Disagreements and infighting between the likes of Massoud and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar set the stage for the eventual rise of the Taliban.



Along side of the Iranian invasion this occupation can go down as the worst military/political blunder in our history.
I hardly think you can seperate the end from the beginning.The entire adventure like all adventures in Afghanistan is/ewas a total cluster ****

I dont know what Biden knew or didnt know.

But this has been the inevitable outcome for 20 years.
I dont agree much with Ron Paul but he too said as much in 2001

No one has shown me what an orderly exit from Afghanistan would have looked like.
 
First of all, it would have happened earlier in the year, instead of during prime military offensive season.
It would have involved a drawdown of non military personnel.
It would have been preceded by Afghan special forces and interpreters being evacuated.
It would have included temporary air cover to keep the Afghani forces above water, at least until everyone but allied military was gone.
It would have included steps to legitimize the Afghan government, instead of treating them as an afterthought.

Basically anything would have been better than how it was handled.
 
It’s crazy to see republicans talk **** about doing exactly what trump bragged about setting in motion and what republicans wanted to be done there

But on brand for that morally bankrupt group of charlatans
 
Trump’s withdrawal was contingent on the conditions on the ground though. There were something like 2500 troops in country when Biden took over. After a withdrawal of forces there are now or will be close to 6000 boots on the ground. Only with Biden does that happen.

I think Biden said something about it being illegal to get all these Afghan nationals into the country. I think the best way is to fly them to Mexico and let them come on in that way.
