We’ll be fine.

Country has been here for 245 years. Never had a black woman as SCOTUS judge, and I bet there have been many just as qualified as Clarence Thomas was 30 years ago. In 20 years it won’t be a big deal anymore.

We won’t get a Muslim Judge though until the Republicans nominate one. They hold the gate keeping on stuff like that.
 
I would welcome a few fundamentalist Muslims to the Supreme Court. Those who think ACB and Clarence Thomas are far right would be in for a rude awakening.

I don't have any problem with this. So long as the evidence wasn't such that you're revealing sources then I don't see a problem with it.

Xi is not a good guy at all. But he is self interested and wants to see China's prosperity and prominence increase. This Ukraine thing was not going to be good for business.

It also is used as a barometer to see how China reacts to this, so when you do move your pieces on the board you'll have a better idea where both Russia and China stand.

I don't think US gave them all the goods. Just some breadcrumbs. Leak it to China, then see what China leaks to Russia. The idea that Biden just handed XI a folder and said "hey don't tell anybody this" is pretty funny. But then again, Trump did that with Putin, so I guess anything is on the table.
 
Interesting development from the peace talks today is that Ukraine said it's open to neutrality (meaning no longer pursuing NATO membership) as part of a peace deal. This per Max Seddon the Moscow bureau chief for Financial Times.

Well, they're not going to tell Moscow they're gonna join NATO as soon as they up and leave.

I'm more interested in what happens to Crimea and the "independent" states to the East.

I feel at this point Putin has gambled everything on the table now. So sanctions may not be removed if he doesn't give that land back to Ukraine.

I don't see any downside for China. At a time when public opinion in the US was really building momentum against China, the old Boogeyman rears his ugly head and takes the heat off of Xi. It's also costing his only real rival billions in aid as a response, and providing him some level of intelligence that we apparently didn't think he had.

I don't think the world is even thinking about Crimea right now. I think Russia could have the harshest sanctions rolled back if they just settled for Crimea and the states in the east.
